You Elect Your Government Officials -If You Vote There's a fond and prevalent thought among practicing politicians that they pull the strings which elect the officials who are in charge of our various governments. They like to believe that the speeches, the posters and the banners, and the other publicity they hand out are what puts men in office. Yet this is not true. Publicity servies only to call attention to the qualifications of candidates and to the issues of the campaign.' Speeches are mere instruments for promotion: So are banners and posters. . . Speeches, Banners, Posters and Newspaper Publicity are not votes ; and our public officials are elected by votes. Elections, are won by the person and the party securing the great est numebr of votes YOUR VOTES. Eyery election is a competitive affair. At least two mer. or women are running for every office. In almost every instance one of these two is better suited, to the individual eye, to handle the task for which he is offering himself. Every citizen of voting age is able to help determine who shall serve him, who shall handle the affairs of his government who shall handle the tax money which he, the citizen, has paid to defray the expenses of government. The opportunity is there. It is an opportunity to participate in free govern ment. If the individual citizen does not take the opportunity to vote, he should not complain about his governmental servants. It's a clear case of VOTE OR SHUT UP. ' Voting is neither complicated nor time-consuming. It if a simple task. The qualifications for voting are not rigorous. It is necessary that you be registered. Registering is just a matter of a few minutes. Every precinct has a chairman, every county has a chairman. They can tell you how and where to register and where to vote. Each citizen is a tax-paying shareholder of Democratic Government. Each citizen has the opportunity to vote in or out his choice of Management. , Read the Publicity. Listen to the Speeches. Look over th Platforms. Learn the Issues. Weigh the Qualifications. Then Register and Vote.-You have until October. Fourth to register. Do it Now. Be a Participating American Citizen. REMEMBER; Bad governmental officials are elected by good citizens who do not vote.
