United Press Sports Writer . NEW YORK, Aug. 9. UP) The Boston Braves fell heir today to that , "miracle" ..tag., :hug on. their 1914 predecessors,, for, after their worst slump of ' the' season, they still held ' the ' National League lead with a fat four game edge. These current upstarts dropped five out of eight and still show a clean pair of heels, blowing only a game and a half in a rough week as the challengers polished off each other. The Braves started up the road back behind "Old 96," as Bill Voistlle steamed in with his 12th ! win . . . and to think that those New York Giants, wno don't have ! a pitcher to pot shot With, ped-1 died off for a wing which never had a prayer ... Taking two from the Phils for; eight out of 10, the Cards took' second place and continued to save Eddie Dyer's managerial toga from alterations for a new tenant. Stan (The Man) Musial appears as robust as usual. He belted number 27 to tie Hank Sauer and Large John Mize just one back of Ralph Kiner in the home run derby . . . Comedy relief was supplied by the Giants and Pirates as they divided a Sabbath doubleheader. Pirate Pitcher Bob Chesnes was busier than a flock of hens around a busted feed sack. His rival,' Clint Hartung, had retired 17 men in order 'when. P-V1"' Bcb imperiled his standii'C r pitchers' union by gett'i'V li" ' ' Vt basepath assignment on m i'o Things happened fast ai'lw to'. Vanderburgh Sets Up Speed Limit EVANSVILLE, Ind., Aug. 9 (UP) Vanderburgh County authorities enforced a voluntary speed limit today which state officials urged all of Indiana to adopt. ' Sheriff Bert Martin said he had instructed his deputies to "crack down" on speedsters. He said drivers violating a 60-mile per hour speed limit would be arrested. Governor Gates and the Indiana Traffic Safety Commission recommended a few days ago that a 60-mile speed limit be set up on most Hoosier highways. The Governor asked for voluntary compliance with the 60MPH limit while the State Highway Commission posted many zones. The council also recommended that the 1949 State Legislature enact a 60-mile-an-hour speed limit law covering all roads in the state.
