Allied Retaliation The Western Powers have decided to retaliate against ;he Soviet for the Berlin blockade, and perhaps force Russia nto lifting the threat of starvation that faces the millions ;hat live in the American, British, and French sectors of the former German capital. The first action came when the three powers placed an embargo on all rail traffic into the Soviet-occupied zone from the West. The Western Powers didn't say that it was retaliation, merely that "technical difficulties" had forced them to make the move. The explanation is the same one that the Soviet used to explain why they had banned all traffic between Berlin and Western Germany.1 However, the Western Powers gave an explanation of their "technical difficulties." They said that the Russians still had some 15,000 railroad cars in their zone ivhich belonged in the West, and thus there weren't sufficient cars to move the traffic. Another move was announced Tuesday. sThe United States Army is building new airfields in Berlin to handle the increased air traffic that is necessary to feed the hungry Berliners..And,''merely by coincidence, of course, the probible site for the one new landing strip is very near the radio :ower of the strongest Russian radio station in Germany1. And, merely by coincidence, Army engineers said that he tower might have to be razed in order to make landings in the strip safer. ' . Should that tower be torn down, the Russians would lave to build a new one in their zone to send their propa-. T J J.1 - ' 1 111 1 1 ! 1

The unbeaten Dugger Softball ! team will be .out to chalk up its third straight victory of the second half tonight, when it rlavs the Eagles Lodge in the first game of tonight's double-, header. The Eagles have a fiftyi fifty record, losing to the Engle , Clothiers and beating Kraft. Dugger has stopped both the ' Jaycees and the Legion. In the second game, the Jaycees and the Legion will play, with- the Legion seeking its first win of the second half. They have lost to Carlisle in addition to Dugger. The Jaycees beat Browns before losing to Dueger. Two Sullivan teams took a
four percentage points behind the Red Sox with a ball club that cost
86-year-old Connie Mack less than his free-spending fellow townsmen who run the Phillies have spent on one rookie ball player. Mack's waiverprice infield cost him less than $40,000 and the rest of the club, picked up in player draft marts and off sand lots stood him around $40,000 more. That's why club owners with extensive farm systems and high priced scouts are alarmed. They say it would set baseball back half a century if the A's would win the pennant. In order for the A's to beat Greenberg's Indians, 4 to 3 yesterday Center Fielder Larry Doby had to get hit on top of the head
by a fly ball which he lost in the

HERE is a pleasant little game that will givyou a message every day. It is a numerical puzzle designed to spell out your fortune. Count the letters in your first name. If the number of letters is 6 or more, subtract 4. If the number is less than 6, add 3. The result is your key number. Start at the upper left-hand corner of the rectangle and check every one of your key numbers, left to right. Then read the message the letters under the checked figures give you. With two out and with Barney McCoskey on base with a single and Ray Coleman by way of a walk, Don White lofted the easy fly that eonked the Negro outfielder. Dick Fowler survived for his 10th victory. Allie Clark hit a Cleveland homer. Superstition caught up with the Red Sox after 13 straight victories and they lost a 13 to 0 decision at Detroit, suffering their worst beating of the year after compil
ing the longest winning streak of
the year. Dizzy Trout pitched sixhit ball and Hoot Evers led the 18-hit Detroit attack with a double and three singles, driving in three runs. Leo Durocher continued to get amazingly fine pitching from his Giant staff, Clint Hartung pitching the second straight shutout and the fourth since Durocher took over the club, a three-hit, 5 to 0 job over the Reds at New York. Sid Gordon hit a two-run homer for the Giants. Once again the Dodgers embarrassed the Cardinals, 12 to 4 at Brooklyn, pounding out 15 hits and scoring eight runs in the fifth inning. Gil Hodges hit a three run triple in the big inning. Tommy (Buckshot) Brown hit a Dodger homer and Whitey Kurowski got one for St. Louis. Preacher Roe scored his fifth victory for the Dodgers, giving up
