WHEN FIRE SWEPT the Crowe home at North Saugus, Mass., Richard Crowe was awakened by the family pet dog. He roused his wife, and while she rounded up the children, he leaped to the ground and secured a ladder to the second floor window. Helping his wife and children to escape down the ladder, he then dug deep into th? blankets of a crib for his two-year-old child and then descended to the ground with the bundle. On opening the blankets Crowe found them empty, the tot having dropped unnoticed while he was rushing from the burning structure. The baby perished in the flames. Crowe, suffering from burns, is shown with his wife and two of the rescued children. International)
