JO All Mail Subscriptions Strictly In Advance, Two Free Years Of College College is and should be the dream come true of every boy and girl in high school. The wide-awake young man and young woman of today know they must have all the education possible to compete in business, industry, government and, in the professional fields. Bufy every boy and every girl no matter how badly they want it cannot go to college. It is true that more students go to college today than ever before, but the cost of higher education is still too high for millions. - , Thus, it is highly interesting to read that President -Truman's Commission on Higher Education has recommended two free years of college for all worthy students and has also asked for lower tuition fees fcr upper classmen and graduate students. If the government follows these recomv mendations, there is a bright prospect that many cf the boys .and .girls in junior and senior high school today will be in college tomorrow. They will enjoy 14 years of free education unsteacF of the standard 12. I ;i3E!h& repot t goes further. It recommends that many of the present concepts of education handed down to us by European schools which fitted young men for leisure instead ct useful work should be junked so that our schools may be 'attuned to the needs of the free citizens of our democracy." It proposes meshing vocational and professional training with I'liberal" education. fit proposes that hundreds of new "community colleges" ehculd be established. It would effect sweeping changes in
curnculums to eliminate over-specialization.
rvThis would be supplemented with an expanded and im-
igjiiative adult education program.
5 federal aid, of course, would be required, lhis means
'we will have to talk to our congressmen about the proposals. I Failure to aid education in the poorer states, says the commission, is "not only denying to millions of young people the chance in life to which they are entitled ; we are also depriving the nation of a vast amount of potential leadership and potential social competence which it sorely needs." These are only a few highlights of the report. They are well worth our study if we are to give our children in America the best education of any people in the world. Let's see that this report is kept alive.

Retrieving the balloons was a cinch on the upper floors, where the porters usually could snare the string with a long window pole. The main floor's high ceiling, however, presented another problem. The porters rigged up another balloon with a weight, sent it aloft, deftly twirled the string and snared the fugitive balloons.
