"THE CHURCHES OF CHRIST SALUTE YOU."
Romans 16:16
Each congregation listed below extends A- cordial" invitation to all who can to meet vith them ach and every Lord's day and enjoy the worship with them. . :
GOSPEL of CHRIST
Redemption in Christ In a religious sense the word "redemption" means that one has been delivered from the bondage of sin. The preposition . "in" means within or inside. To be "In Christ" means to be in his body or in the church. If redemption is in Christ and if to be in, Christ, means to be in the church, then the redeemed or saved are in the church and, those outside the church are in a lost condition. Redemption has been provided by Christ. "And she shall bring forth a Son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus; for it is he that shall save his people from their sins." Matt, 1:21. "For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, being himself the savior of the body." Eph. 5:23. "But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who was made unto us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption." I Cor. 1:30. We see from these passages that our redemption was provided by Christ and that it is centered in Christ. Redemption is in Christ. "There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus." Rom. 8:1. The implication from this verse is that those who are outside of Christ are condemned. All spiritual blessings such as forgiveness of sins, Christian fellowship, and the promise of eternal life, are in Christ, "who hath blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ;" Eph. 1:3. Christ redeems us from our sins, from death and from eternal destruction. To , enjoy these rich benefits, one must be in Christ or in the church.
Redemption has been provided for all mankind but all people will not be redeemed because all people will not take advantage of that which is offered them. "For the grace of God hath appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us, to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly and righteously and godly in this present world;" Tit.' 2:11, 12. Redemption is not something unconditional but those who are willing to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and to live soberly and righteously and godly in this present world will enjoy the benefits. Redemption was purchased for us at a supreme scarifice. "In whom we have our redemption, through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses,.". "But God commendeth his own love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Rom. 5:8. "For ye were bought with a price: glorify God therefore in your body." I Cor. 6:20. Christ died for the church. " to feed the church of the Lord which he purchased with his own blood." Acts 20:28. The church is the body. "And he is the . head of the body, the church." Col. 1:18. ReT demption is in Christ and to be in Christ is to be in the church. Can we afford to remain outside the church when we realize that the saved or the redeemed are in the church? Would it be right to say that one can be saved outside the church 1 just as well as inside the church? Is the church unimportant? If so, why did Christ die that it might be established? Redemption is to be had only in the church or in Christ.
