"THE CHURCHES OF CHRIST SALUTE YOU."

Romans 16:16

Each congregation listed below extends a cordial invitation to all who can to meet with them each and every Lord's day and enjoy the worship with them.

GOSPEL of CHRIST "THE LORD PRAYED"

j 16-20 South Section

Telephone 39 j 102 South Main

Phone 37S

"Neither pray I for these alone (his disciples)but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that thou' hast sent me." (Jno. 17:20-21). Yes, the above prayer came from the lips of our Lord in behalf of all men in all ages who believe on him. If it be possible to touch the heart of a man, it must surely be touched by a prayer from him who was willing to die that

man might become alive unto life eternal.' Are you interested in helping N to bring about an answer, to the prayer of Jesus? Then note for., what he prayed. His prayer was in behalf of. the unity of all who should believe on him through the word spoken by those whom he sent forth to proclaim him to the world, to be ' his witnesses unto 'the uttermost parts. How different this prayer of Christ for the oneness of his professed followers to the pVayers of so many who, upon bended knees, thank God for the division among professed Christians so that every man may have a church of his choice. How many of us have not heard men who claim to be disciples of Christ thank God

for all the churches that each one might choose one to suit himself. It is, therefore, no wonder that half or more of the people of our own, so called, Christian nation make no profession of religion of any sort, since the majority of those

who claim to be Christians, so flagrantly disregard the very prayer breathed from the heart of Jesus to his Father. Note, too, that Jesus not only prayed that all' believers might be one, but he described the type .of unity which should exist even as he and his Father are one. Who can even imagine that Jesus ever said to his Father,

"Yea, Father, I know we are united in one great purpose, the salvation of the souls of men, but we must not be so narrow as to think, that the same method must be used by both of us to accomplish that purpose. As long as our goal is the same, it matters not how we reach it even though it may be by different rpads." It must surely be evident to all Bible readers that such unity as that did not exist between the Father and the Son. -They were one, not only in pur-

pose, but in all things which they said and did to accomplish that aim. They were perfectly joined together in all particulars. Thus, we should not be surprised when we read that the great apostle Paul wrote to Christians and said, "Now, I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lprd Jesus Christ, that ye al, speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the sameijudgment." (I Cor. 1:10-11). Note: "Speak

the same thing." "No divisions among you." "Perfectly joined together." "Same mind." "Same judgment." Such is the unity for which Jesus prayed. Do we have it among all professed believers? , Very evidently not. Then something must be wrong. Who? Read your New Testament and find out. You cannot read the Book of Acts, with understanding, without seeing one great reason why we have so much division among professed believers in Christ. Believers must unite on what the word of the Lord says. We can never unite on the theories, doctrines and creeds of men. Jesus prayed for oneness. All who follow his

word in all things, will be one even as he and a

his Father are one.
