' Ordinarily, a sports column is not' written in the first person, but this one is going to be. What I want to say can't very well be said any ' other way. It seems that I have been wrong in the way I have been taking care of this corner, and I want this' to be a public' apology for 'any misunderstandings that anything I ' have written may have caused. 1 It seems that there has been
considerable criticism of the col
umn I wrote last Tuesday night, in which T said what I thought, in such a way that it didn't mean
to the average reader what I in
tended to say. ' I don't want to criticize the

beys to such an extent that they
,feel that I am crucifying them, ' which is what someone told me I was doing. I don't want to do . That, because I know most of the boys and I think they are a grand bunch of guys, I know that they are playing their hearts out to win, and doing all they can to win. No one I could go into the dressing room after a game, as I have after ev ery game the Arrows have , played, and see how hard they have taken the result, and not realize that they have given . everything they, have to win. I know the physical beating they take when they continually go up against bigger teams as they have in every game so far this year. I know how much they hate to lose, because I have scon 1 some of them crying in the dressing room after a loss. And I think that is hard for anyone to take, seeing a bunch of swell boys feel so badly about the re-' suit of a game. I have been around a number of high school teams and I have
known the boys on them rather well, but in my opinion, this bunch of Arrows is the cleanest bunch of the lot, and I'm not saying that just to make the local fans feel good. Except for maybe one or two, they all train. And that is rare in high school athletes, 1 I was also told that I have been riding Coach Jones, which is the one thing I don't intend to do, as I feel that he is a good coach, who is doing a swell job with a shortage of material. He has very few reserves to work with, which handicaps him in trying to get his team ready for a game, and it also prevents him from I substituting in a game the way 1 1 know he would like to, and the' way any coach would like to. J More important, I have found i that I can't write here the way I have done before, so I will just have to change, to conform with
the local ideas of how sports
should be written. !
But enough of that. This is still an apology, and I hope that
the players, the fans, and thi parents will accept it. in the spirit in which it is given. There is no one in Sullivan who wants to see the Arrows 'win any more than I do, and no one who pulls for them any harder than I do." And certainly there is no one in town who realizes that Sullivan needs a football team, more for what it will do for the boys who play the game, than I do. I hope that this straightens everything out, and that it will clear up any misunderstanding or misapprehension that anything I have wrien has caused.
