GOSPEL of CHRIST "BIBLE HARMONY"

There seems to be no special effort put forth on the part of the writers of fhe Bible to harmonize their thoughts and ideas, but so evident is that harmony among them, that we cannot afford to overlook it in our estimation of its value and character. In fact there could have been no collaboration among many of the writers of the Book, 'for those who wrote it lived over a space of some sixteen hundred years with many of them not knowing that the others existed or would exist. About forty dif

ferent individuals had a part to play in giving us the volume of sixty-six books which we today call the Bible. These men lived in diff3rent periods of history and wrote under varied circumstances of life. ' Thus the Bible is not the product of one man. It is hot a great epic of history conceived -JTid produced by some one nrcat human genius. It is the product of many men of many nations and varied tongues. Betweffn the beginning of the Book and the end, nations and languages , arose and fell. In it wc find the sayings of wise

men, the words of emperors, kings and philosophers; words written by fishermen, statesmen and shepherds. There are portions of it coming from men who were educated in the wisdom of Egypt, the learned of the schools of Babylon, men in exile and those who were brought up

at the feet of the doctors of the law in Jerusalem. It was begun by Moses, the law-giver, in the desert of Arabia and finished by the apostle John, the beloved disciple, on the lonely isle of Patmos in the Mediterranean Sea just off the shores of Asia Minor. However, in spite

of the varied instrumentalities playing parts in the writing of this Book, it is one harmonious

Whole with not a single discord, nen properly understood. Yes, i' is true that many 'pvned critics have unrimaken to show that tlx. Bible contradicts itself, but not one of the many socalled contradictions has ever stood the acid test of faithful investigation. Critics of, 'the Book look upon the hopelessly divided state among those who profess to believe the Bible and say that a book of perfect harmony could not produce such a profusion of contradictions.

In that statement, they are absolutely correct. ! However, friends, I t us not lay this charge at the dcor of the Bil. '. That great Book is not -responsible for the 'e of confusion existing among those who c 1 1 u to believe it. That charge must be laid, at the door of human weakness. Man's imperfections, and, kindly hut frankly, man's unwillingness to accept simple, revealed truth, is the cause of such discord as you see among religious people today. Often times wc find even professed believers in the Bible who will try to excuse the divid"'4 ?ate of religion by saying that we just

cf.r. t understand the Bible alike. Such is not

only improbable but positively impossible, when it is admitted that the Bible does not con

tradict itself. Two people cannot understand

the same statement and get comradu v :y

meanings from it. One or both of them r-iiht

, misunderstand it and bs differ- nt, but under

standing on the part m 'Mb v-n bring perfect

harmony between them. Lot i; . . to under

stand the Bible, for it is certai ;;,f t some of

us do not understand it, seeing i we are di

vided arenne ourselves and contradictory one

to another in religious doctrine and prac'Ve.
