GOV. DICK JAMES
"Indiana is big enough, prosperous enough and so thoroughly interested in its 1947 State Fair that it should break the fair's 1946 attendance record." - So says Lieutenant Governor Dick James, who as Indiana Commissioner of . Agriculture, is exofficio head of the Indiana State Fair. . Last year's paid attendance was 627,673, easily a record attendance and high among the nation's state fairs, - Mr. James said. He hopes the record will fall again for the approaching Siate Fair which . opens Friday, August 29, for its eight-day operation. . i "Hoosiers owe it to themselves to see theft State Fair," he said. 'And we invite them all to come.",

GOSPEL of CHRIST WHAT SAVES MAN?
Bring Own Containers

When two cars collide and people are severely injured, several things are required in bringing relief to the suffering. There might be need for an ambulance, a doctor, instruments, nurses, hospital etc. And although it might be said the doctor saved 'the lives of those involved, common sensee tells us it is not presumed that nothing else contributed to their, recovery. And so it is in spiritual matter's.. Man is saved from his sins by a com
bination of' things,; some of which are.
GRACE "That, being justified by his
grace, we might be made heirs according to
the hope of eternal life." Titus 3:7. God was most gracious .in that he provided for man a way to escape condemnation, and were it not
for His grace, none could be saved. But is
od the only one who has a part in this sal
vation?
FAITH "Being therefore justified by
faith,, we have peace with God through our
Lord Jesus Christ." Rom. 5:1. If the grace of
God is all that is required in salvation, then
even faith is not neccosary. Neither is man
saved by faith only, for that excludes grace.
BLOOD "Much more then, being now
justified by his blcod, shall we be saved from
the wrath of , God through him." Rom. 5:9. We see that Christ also had a part in saving man,
and had it not been for the shedding of His blood, there could be no forgiveness of sin.
"Format ' is, impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins." Heb. 10:4. GOSPEL "Now I make known unto you, brethren the gospel which I preached unto
you, which also ye received, ' wherein also ye stand, by which also ye are saved." I Cor. 15: 1-2. . N BAPTISM "The long suffering of God wailed in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein fpw, that is, eight souls, were saved through wa:er: which also after a true likeness doth now save you, even baptism." I Pet. 3:20, 21. 1
WORKS "Ye see that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith." James 2:24. Abraham, a great man of faith, was justified because he was willing to do what God commanded him to do, and did it. "Be ye doers oi the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves." James 1:22. WORDS "And I say. unto you, that everj idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For ' by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." Matt. 12: .36,37. This list is by no means complete, but is sufficient to show that salvation is not entirely a matter of Gcd's good grace, although with
out it there could be no salvation. The Bible
teaches that we are saved by all of these things, and not by faith only, nor baptism only, nor by any other one thing apart from other things God has incorporated in his plan. By the grace of God and in view of the foregoing lesson, it is fervently to be hoped that you will, in the words of the apostle Peter, "Save yourself from this crooked, generation." Acts 2:40.

In this material world in which w,e live there is much beauty for which we lens and oftinres associate frith "a little bit of heaven" here on earth. The t omes we buikl frcm the love and happiness we put into them are truly divine gifts upon which tl e Lord has smiled. Yet this earthly heaven we seek after can in no wiise equal that which will be found in the Lome of our Heavenly Father. Jesus fcretold that it is barglarproof, free of all malady, surrounded by only the most holy of creations. He tarried in the Wilderness to prepare himself for the task of revealing: to the world liffht unto the prophesies. He gave tc us the charge that we should likewise tarry until the Holy Spirit be descended upon us, to fashion all persons and all things of our household after the ways of the Lord. '.In this manner let us remember that He spoke of his people as his Church and designated ,no one group. Join in the Unio-a Church Services this Sunday evening-.
