Sullivan County Property Taxes Larger Than 1940 INDIANAPOLIS, June 2, Compared -vvilh 1940, property taxes in Sullivan County are up 7.6 per cent. The increase in dollars is $48,406, and the total payaple this year is SH85.547. Only four counties in the State are levying less in taxes ihis year than they did in 1940. These four are Clay, Knox, LaPorte, and Vermillion counties. All others have increased their property levies all the way from 4.8 per cent in Owen County to 109.4 per cent in Bartholomew County. These figures were made public by the Indiana Taxpayers Association. Indiana property taxes levied in 1940 amounted to $105,200,46. For the year 1947, the amount was $142,191,070, an increase of $3C,991,024, or 35.2 per cent, for the State as a whole. In surrounding counties, Knox County, one of the four counties that had a drop in property taxes, saw a decrease of 7.4 per cent, the second largest decrease in the State. Only Vermillion County, with a decrease of 23.5 per cent topped Knox County. Clay County also had a decrease of 4.2 per cent. In other nearby counties, there was an increase in the property
