This Morning's Headlines PRESIDENT TRUMAN has said again that there is no need for a depression, and presented this formula to prevent it: Just use common sense, and don't let the greedy people get control of the country. He again expressed belief that prices are too high. Mr. Truman added that there has not been too much co-operation to keep the greedy from gaining control, either legislatively or publicly, but he praised the price reductions that have been made.
Portal Pay
President Truman is to be commended for signing the bill outlawing portal-to-portal pay claims. Now ' industry can
" breathe easier. Those threats of back-pay claims, running in to millions of dollars, could almost wreck industry.'
The whole controversy should never have started in the
first place and wouldn t have if the U. S. Supreme Court and
some of our labor leaders had shown better ludgment.
We hope that the issue is dead and that there will be no
test cf the constitutionality of the law which Congress sent - to the President. What this country needs is freedom from labor-man
agement frictions and removal of the portal-pay threat will
do much to restore better feeling. "
THE PHOENIX, ARIZ., GAZETTE said in a copyrighted story that extensive deposits of carnotite, a . uranium-bearing mineral, have been found in a copper claim in Hack's Canyon, a tributary of the Grand Canyon'. Three other large deposits' were reported nearby. The Arizona department of mineral resources reported the mineral showed a content of. V2 per cent uranium, which it describes as a very high uranium content. ,
