LONDON (UP) Under a national immunization program begun in 1940, deaths' from diphtheria in Great Pritain have dropped by almost two-thirds. Before the war, diphtheria claimed some 3,000 victims a year, and hospital treatment of about 60,000 patients cost more than $4,000,000. Now deaths are down to 1,000 a year.
