"THE CHURCHES OF CHRIST SALUTE YOU." Romans 16:16 You are cordially invited to attend the meeting that is in progress at the North State St. Congregation. Meeting each evening at 7:30. The speaker during the meeting is Bro. Justus Hesson of Blooniington, Ind. Each congregation listed below extends a cordial invitation to all who can to meet with them each and every Lord's day and enjoy the worship with them.

GOSPEL of CHRIST SALVATION BY GRACE EPH. 2:8.9

"For by grace have ye been saved." Every lost man is saved by grace, God's unmerited favor tendered to the unworthy. Grace, as here used, also refers to the gospel. Grace and the gc:pel are often used interchangeably. Note the marked examples. "By grace are ye saved" (Eph. 2:8); the gospel, "By which also ye are

saved" (I Cor. 152). "By grace have ye been

saved through faith" (Ph. 2:8); by the gospel "ye are saved except ye believed ia vain" (I Cer. 15:2). The saved stand in grace (Rom.

5:2); the redeemed stand in the gospel (I Cor. 15:1). Grace Is for all men (Tit. 2:11); the gospel is for every creiture (Mk. 16:15). To clinch all of this, Paul testified "the gospel of the grace of God" (Acts 20:24). Therefore to be saved by grace is to be saved by the gospel.

While all men are saved by grace, no one

is saved by grace only. This would exclude the

leve of God, Christ's death for sin. His burial, His resurrection, the blood, and the boundless

mercy cf God. This grace, by which all are

saved, must therefore include all the rich pro

visions God has prepared for fallen man. This is also true in nature. Every one lives by water,

but not by water only. If so, man can live with- ' out eating, breathing and exercise. Who is prepared for such conclusions? When therefore the Bible affirms salvation on any one condition, it does not exclude any other provision or condi

tion of it; but rather, it always includes all such. To this statement there is no exception. . The text strikingly illustrates this principle. "For by grace have ye been saved through faith." Here, faith is the medium or. means by

which this salvation is appropriated. Faith gives the access into this saving grace (Rom. 5:2). Not only this, but this faith is also very inclusive: it includes every other condition of salvation not here expressed, but definitely .implied. Jesus said: "Except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish" (Lk. 13:3, 5). Repentance is therefore included in the faith that lays hold of salvation by grace. Not only so, but "the gospel of the grace of God" (Acts 20:24). includes baptism. In the Master's final orders to the apostles, he said: "Go ye into all the world and preach. the gospel to the whole creation. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved:

but he thadisbelieveth shall be condemned"?

(Mk. 16:15, 16). Does the reader want ari example? Very well. "By grace have ye been saved" was said of the Ephesian Church (Eph. 1:1, 2, 2:8). How , then were these Epheslans saved by grace? The record of the salvation of the first twelve mem

bers is revealed in (Acts 19:1-7). This account

shows they heard, they believed, and were baptized "into the name of the Lord Jesus (Acts 19:4, 5).. Paul, who testified "the gospel of the grace cf God" (Acts 20:24) to them said, when

he wrote to them, "By grace have ye been : saved." (Therefore, salvation by grace included obedience to the terms of the gospel. This is' why it was said: "The priests were obedient to the faith" (Acts 6:7). This is why, too, all of i" the apostles "received grace and aposlleship, unto obedience of faith among all nations" (Rom. 1:5). Fellow the series of articles on Eph. 2:8, 9. f
