We Have Undesirable Minorities, Too . Brotherhood Week, now being observed ' throughout America under the sponsorship of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, directs needed attention to the rights of all citizens, regardless of their religion, race or national origin. In war or in peace, these rights must be respected if we are to make democracy work. . . . . .. During the recent conflict, we achieved a better record for tolerance and justice than in the years of World War I.

Many Japanese-Americans were treated unfairly, even brutally, but other Americans who spoke in their defense were listened to more respectfully than those who attempted to defend citizens of Germanic origin 30 years ago.' It is not working on those states, north and south, where the, Ku Klux Klan and other "hate" organizations are growing bolder; as shown by recent public advertisements for members to licit) in their campaigns of intimidation against Jews and Catholics as well as Negroes. It is not working as well as could be desired in our great c;.ties, and even in some of our tax-supported educational institutions. These imperfections are abetted by some well-meaning citizens through indifference and unjustified tolerance to

ward the undesirable kind of minorities, those which would take- the law into the'r own hands or impose their narrow prejudices upon the majority. . These minorities have no such privileges under the Declaration of Independence, which proclaims: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that iboy are endowed by their Creator 'with 'certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit cf IJpppiness." . . . Nor are any lights granted, to such minorities in the Constitution, which, in seeking to promote the general wel

fare, stipulates that "Congress shall make no law respecting

Should a reproach be cast against their name, - it would be resented. ' And rightly- so. Why? Because their name means much t: them. Yet many' of these same people, when it is pointed cut to them that they are wearing religious names not found in the Bible, will say disdainfully, "Well, what's in a name?" Consistency, where art thou? , Does God consider that there is anything in a name? If there is nothing in a name, why did God' change Abram's name, to Abraham? (Gen. 17:3) .Why did He change Sarai's name to Sarah? (Gen. 17:13, 16) Why did He change Jacob's name to Israel? (Gen. 32-27-2S) Whv did He name John before his birth? (Luke 1:13) Why did He name Jesus before his birth? (Matt. 1:21) Thus we see the attitude of God in the matter. - .. . As to the name God's children wear, let us consider the scriptures, "And the Gentiles shall see - thy righteousness, end all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name." (Isaiah 62:2) The Lord, not uninspired man, would designate the name, and that when the Gentiles had seen His righteousness, and the kings His glory. The Gentiles did see the Lord's righteousness in conversion of Cornelius and his household, representative of Gentiles as set forth in Acts, the : tenth chapter. Earlier the envious kings of the earth became aware cf the Lord's glory. (Acts 4:26). Further, "Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than : of sons and of daughters: I. will give them an everlasting name to those hi his house."

(Verse 26) CHRISTIAN, then, fs the God-given name His children wear. - . vYet some, in an effort to justify some man-given name which they wear, will sav that the name CHRISTIAN was given in derision by the enemies of the earlv s?ints. Let Peter refute that statement: "But if a man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed: but let h'irt glorify God in this name." (I i'etev 4:16, A; V,) The name CHRISTIAN is never used as an adjective in the New Testament, but always as a noun. Hence, the church, the body of Christians, is called the CHURCH OF GOD (I Cor. 1:2). the CHURCH OF CHRIST (Matt. 16:18 and Rom, 16:16) and the CHURCH OF THE LORD (Acts 20:28, A. V.) ' . j Man-given religious names are derisive in character; designating particular parties.' They are sectarian in purpose and effect, separating some professed believers from others by their peculiarities. Therefore, they are antagonistic to the spirit of Christ (see John 17:20-21) and condemned in the New Testament (I Cor. 1:10-13). They honor some man. exalt some church ordinance, or designate some particular manner of church government. Thus they divert honor belonging to Christ. Are you honoring Christ? Can you find the name you wear, in the Bible?
