Preposterous insinuations bring denials, which in turn leave a residue of doubt in the public mind. , Even the sincere denials of honest men can have this effect unless the public is alert. A sound, conservative newsTaper which has stanchly championed David E. Lilienthal as head of the Atomic Energy Commission heads a news story: "President Denies Lilienthal Is Red." Ah, says the unwary ' leader, but he must at least be dangerously . pink or the charge would never have been made. . .
