INDIANA SENATE TO PROBE BURCH PRIMARY FIGHT A four-member Senate committee will open an inquiry tomorrow into the activities of State Auditor A. V. Burch, only Republican state official supporting the direct primary, in connection with his attempts to secure passage of a primary bill now before the General Assembly. ' The GOP-controlled Senate yesterday voted the investigation after Sen. Samuel Johnson (R.-Anderson) introduced a resolution charging that Burch's employees had brought "undue -pressure" for passage of the bill on farmers who visited the auditor's office to receive gasoline tax refunds.

SKIP ELECTION BILL LOSES OFFICIAL GOP SUPPORT The Republican legislative policy committee, which previously had approved in principle a municipal "skip election" bill, last night withdrew its support of the measure..The bill, which was introduced in the stale Senate with the blessings of the policy committee, provides that city officials elected this fall will serve three-year terms and that municipal elections will be held every four years beginning in 1950.

TWENTY-FIVE DEAD IN CHINA AIRLINER CRASH China's sixth airliner tragedy in five weeks killed 25 of the 26 persons aboard 11 of them foreign missions families. In the six crashes 140 persons were killed, 19 are missing and 21 were injured. A seriously injured foreigner was listed by the official Central News Agency as being the only survivor of the CNA'C airliner which fell 100 miles west of Hankow on Tuesday.

JEWS FREE SECOND BRITISH ' CAPTIVE Jewish underground agents last night released Major H. A. I. Collins, whom they kidnaped Sunday as a hostage and delivered him to the Hadassah Hospital Clinic in Jerusalem. Newspaper correspondents found the 65-year-old banker and former army officer standing in the rain outside the clinic at 11:30 p. m. with one arm bandaged (and a bandage on his head. i "I was maltreated and am in bad condition," he said. "But I am in no position to make a statement. Just take me home."
