: Stop Signs Mean "Stop"!. Recently a civic-minded citizen of Sullivan brought to .pur attention the frequency of persons violating the "stop" intersections, around the square. "You never know now whether they'll stop or just 'bust' right on through," lie said. And he's right. The city installed stop signs on all Streets running north and south around the square several months ago with, the thought in mind of facilitating traffic movement and adding to the safety of both motorist and pedestrian. For awhile it worked fine. Then drivers began to fall back into their old habits of trying to see who could bluff out who when their cars met at the intersections. Strangely enough, it's not as noticeable in the younger drivers as it is among businessmen themselves who operate stores and firms about Jthe square. A good businessman is always one who keeps up with the ever-changing times and trends in his particular line. Traffic around Sullivan is changing, too. More traffic is pounding' our streets now than ever before in history and it'll get worse as more cars are built. Our system of stop signs around the square should be a Jiighly satisfactory one if drivers will begin to observe them. Despite numerous police warnings and requests for cooperation in this respect, violations still occur in evcr-increas;ng numbers. A little move courtesy and cooperation in this matter Will make it safer for everyone in SulUvan. The law states th.it any pedestrian injured or killed by an automobile driver who is violating a traffic law, subjects the driver to a charge of involuntary manslaughter but: couldn't it just as well be termed "voluntary manslaughter?"

Open Forum, Sullivan Daily Times, Sullivan, Indiana. Well, folks, here I am again. First it was snakes, then streets, and now it is politics with a capital "P". As I said before, all I know is what I see and read in tho papers. As I picked up the Daily Times of January 13 (something that I don't very often get to do my wife most always beats me to it) I saw in big, bold, black letters, "Congress Warns Portal Pay. Will Bankrupt Firms." Well, as you know, or should know, this Congress, both the Senate and the House of Representatives, is very much Republican controlled at this time and acting as their mouth-piece this time is Homer Capehart of Indiana,; who was very, very little under Hoover and before, and got so big and great under the late Franklin D. Roosevelt's iDemocratiic dministratifin like many others who were down

and out before.

I wonder if Homer is thinking about his thousands of employees who might come under the portal

pay. Now I don't claim to know

so much about this portal to portal pay the workers ai'e asking for, except I myself being a working man, have put in about 12 hours a day going to and from my place of work and being paid for only eight hours. So Mr. Laboring Man and Woman (regardless be you Democrat, Republican or what) with such men as Robert Taft, who was taught from childhood that a dollar a day was enough for any

JARRETT'S DARTS SMACK UNDEFEATED DUGGER JUNIORS, 20-18 Coach Harry Jarrett's JuniorHigh Darts upset the undefeated Junior Bullpups of Dugger Wednesday night 20-18 in a game that saw the lead change a number of times. Dugger's Juniors, led by Forward Bcdweli, showed their usual good form and fast break offense but Darts Morgan, Harris and McClure proved just too much for the Bullp-jp's defense. McClure and Morgan tied for high point honors for the Darts with fix points each, followed closely by Harris with five points. For Dugger Bedwell sank three field shots to lead their scoring with six points. Coach Jarrett took over coaching of the Darts about December 1st and the Sullivan Juniors haven't lost a , game since then. They won over Carlisle's Juniors 27-20 in their last tilt. The Golden Arrow B team propped another decision to Dueger's B five by the score of 20-13.
