j Stressing The Church - Each FridayHhe Times publishes a full page dedicated . to churches of Sullivan county. On this page is an advertisement supported by 34 business firms in the county. These -advertisements contain attractive art work designed especially for the page and they carry an inspirational message to the public. ; , The messages support the general theme that churches are the greatest factors for the building of character and good citizenship. On that basis alone, support of the churches shows wisdom on the part of the public. ' Sullivan firms sponsoring the ads are rendering a service to this community and to the county. The advertisements . have an appeal to the reasoning of readers, not' merely an appeal to the emotions. . Cities without strong churches are unfortunate. The effectiveness of churches on the morals and the character of the popuulation is demonstrated everywhere. Where churches are sound and aggressive and properly supported, the law and its servants have a powerful agency of help. It takes ho churchman, no deacon or elder or clergyman, to appreciate . keenly the important part that the church plays in the' good citizenship of the community. All though If ul persons will concede the value of the church as an institution for main

taining moral stability. Many, however, give' little thought

to this subject. To them the series of advertisements should "be especially helpful and thought-provoking. ' ' '
