CORN AND SOYBEAN FIELD DAY TO BE HELD LAFAYETTE, Ind., Sept. 12

Indications are that 1,500 persons will attend the annual Purdue University Corn ' and Soybean i Field Day program to be held at ; the Soils and Crops Farm, Thurs

day, September 19, according to Prof. R. R. Mulvey, in charge of the experiment field located on State Road 26, east of Lafayette. Better crop production through the use of superior varieties and effective fertilizations will be the theme for the day which will

begin with inspection trips at ! 8:30 a. m., DST. Successive parties will be organized at ten ; minute intervals during the j morning. 1 Those making the field trips will inspect relatively new crops or varieties which will include Ladino clover, Birdsfoot Trefoil, 1 Alta Fescue, Brome grass, Sweet , and Tifts Sudan grass, experi

mental corn hybrids and varie

ties of soybeans, all of which are attracting the attention of farmers today. Each group will be personally conducted and will

have the opportunity to hear the

various fields discussed by staff members of the agronomy department. A feature of the day will be the stops made at the legumegrass combination plots where farmers who have used these combinations will be present to give their experiences. . Also designed to answer pressing farm questions on the tests of nitrogen used in various quantities for corn both with and without legumes and fertilizers on soybeans on different fertility levels. Results of changing fertilizer practices with the use of heavy applications of nitrogen and with minerals plowed down will . be shown as part of the day's program. Of equal concern are problems of disposition of crop residues and clipping clover. A full day's program has been planned with Prot. Ranald Bauman, Purdue agricultural econ

omist, as the principal speaker during the noon hour, following the serving of lunch in the grove. A copy of the complete program for the day is available from the office of the county agricultural agent.
