BRITISH TRANSPORT SINKING AFTER ATTACK BY JEWS The British refugee transport Empire Rival, in whose hull Jewish "frogmen" saboteurs blasted an 8x3-foot hole, was reported to be showing signs of sinking last night. Reliable sources at Jerusalem said the ship was "seriously damaged," that her pumps could not cope with the water flooding into .her and that she was slightly down by the stern and slowly settling. Jewish extremists slipped out to the Rival while she lay in Haifa Harbor, attached limpet bombs to the hull and blew out the hole 15 to 18 feet below the water line.

. CATTLE, HOG PRICES SOAR IN BRIEF REPRIEVE Cattle prices shot up as much as $1.00 a hundred at Union Stockyards, Chicago, yesterday, hogs exploded to $1.00 to $3.00 higher and Spring lambs were up 75 cents to $1.75 in one of the most vigorous trading sessions in history. Extreme strength in values was based on an unexpected week's "reprieve" from price control granted by the Office of Price Administration. Ceilings on livestock will not be restored until next Thursday although earlier they had been ordered back tomorrow.

I SEE THAT . . School time is almost here! We suggested early in the summer that you have your child's eyes examined. Many parents in Sullivan County have done that. But there are many others, "pressed for time" and who isn't, or perhaps just forgetful, who intended to and who want to yet, but who haven't made an appointment. There is still time, but the sooner the better now. ' If glasses are needed and prescribed, a few weeks wearing will make the child accustomed to the glasses and help overcome any shyness in wearing them. We recommend glasses only when they are really required. Be thoughtful enough to make certain that your child starts to school wearing glasses if they are needed, otherwise he will lag in his classes. Don't take the risk of sending a child to school under the severe handicap of poor vision. DR. CE. FISHER Optometrist Phone 450
