"THE CHURCHES OF CHRIST SALUTE YOU."
Romans 16:16
Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in . vain. Psalm 127:1.
Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His word, Just to rest upon His promise, Just to know, "Thus saith the Lord."

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BAPTISM
The one divinely specified purpose of ,
baptism is the remission of sins or sal- : vation from sins. But there are a number of things seen in and signified by beautiful baptism. While many see only a disagreeable requirement, or at least a thing in which they take no particular delight, others see in baptism some of the most sublime and adorable characteristics possible. 1. Baptism is an outward manifestation of a sincere and active faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave. This faith the world can see, the church can see and God can see. when we submit to "the likeness of His death," and are found in "the likeness of His resurrection;" Rom. 6:5. 2. Baptism indicates submission of our will to the divine will. When for no other earthlv benefit, and simply with a desire to do the Lord's bidding we are b"ntized, it reveals surrender to God. "Not everv one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom" of heaven, but he that doeth the will of mv Father Avho is in heaven." Matt. 7:21. 3. To reject baptism is to say God did not know what He was talking about or that He did not do right when He commanded it. BaDtism is a sublime evi- v dence of love to the Lord. "This is the love of God. that keep hrs commandments: and his commandments are not grievous." I John 5:3. And Jesus said, "If ye love me, ve will keep my commandments." John 14:15. And again: "If a man love me, he will keep my word." John 14:23.
4. Baptism marks our death to sin. for we are baotized into the death of Christ. "For the death that he died, he died unto sin." Rom. 6:10. It is not just a picture of our death to sin. but is actually our death to sin and being made alive to righteousness, for we rise to walk in newness of life, Rom 6:4. 7 5. Baptism nroves the leadership of the Holv Spirit over our hearts. "For in one Soirit were we all baptized ;nto one bodv" and "as many as are led bv the ' Snirit of God, these are sons of God." Rom. 8:14. 6. It is in baptism that we are crucified with Jesus. In discussing baptism, it's work and significance, Paul said that our old man was crucified with him, that the bodv of sin nvght be deFtroved, that we should no longer be in bondage of sin; Rom. 6:6. He who pnurns baptism, spurns crucifixion with Jesus. He who properly views and appreciates this command of God sees an opportunity to be crucified with Jesus. If men would only get the Bible view of baptism, thev would aporeciate it ?nd never would you hear of any rejection of it or of any derision or fun making toward it. . It is impossible for a person to be a discirtl'1 of the Lord and fail to be baptized. He who rejects baptism follows the Pharisees" instead of Jesus. "The Pharisees and the lawyers rejected for themselves the council of God, , being not bantized of him." Luke 7:30. And to go to heaven we must follow Jesus instead of the Pharisees. Beloved, do not be misled or prejudiced against the Lord's will by those who would disparage and oppose the essentiality of baotism. Accept the Bible view of it, and obey the gospel of the Lord with relation to it just as in all other matters.

Gladstone used to tell friends about a neighbor's little girl who really believed in prayer. Her brother had made a trap that caught little sparrows and she prayed that it might fail. Suddenly for three days her face was radiant when she prayed and her absolute faith in the futility of the trap was sonoticeable that her mother asked: "Julia, hew can you be so positive?'.' She smiled, "Because, dear Mama, I went out three days ago and kicked the trap to pieces."

Apologetically, he withdrew his pistol. "Excuse me, Father, he said. "I didn't want to hold up a priest, but I need money badly." 1 The priest apologized, also. "I'm sorry too," he said. "I have no change on me, but here's a cigar." i "No, thanks," said the robber, gruffly. "I gave up smoking for Lent."
