172,000 Trees Delivered To Indiana Farms
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., June 13 (Special) Unofficially serving the Indiana Department of Consen'ation the last fourteen years, Harry Quinn of North Judson, this year delivered more than 172,000 young trees to Ind-' iana farmers in the Starke, Pularki and LaPorte county region. A true conservationist, Mr. Quinn began this program of tree delivery in 1932, when he and the late Louis Krann originated the practice of taking forest .tree seedlings, from the Jasper-Pulaski nursery, to the schools in that area, asking each school child to plant a tree on Arbor Day. With this year's delivery, Mr.
Quinn has delivered more than a million ' trees to schools, and to farmers in northern Indiana who agree to transplant these young trees as windbreaks or for erosion control. ' According to Ralph F. Wilcox, State Forester, "Mr. Quinn's community service has undoubtedly been of great value to the State." . "He is one of the leading examples of the true conservationist," stid Mr. Wilcox, "and his activity has been an inspiration to many farmers who would not otherwise have planted trees on their land." Mr. Quinn Is now a member of the State American Legion Conservation Committee, and he has delivered orders ranging from fifty trees to a thousand. A fee of 10c per 100 trees is .charged, and this money is turned over to the American Legion
Judson, by Mr.
post at North
Quinn. The species of trees he delivers include red, white and scotch
