Department Of Veterans Affairs
(Thos. M., Jennings, Director) No doubt by the daily paper yju have noticed that we hava had two military funerals this past week. As this is part of our duty we are always glad to give a helping hand for such. We want every veterans organization to feel free to call upon us for such assistance. If you will' recall last week we spoke of "All Wounds Don't Show" we wish to 1 continue a little dSeper in this subject. These veteran? are returning and in some cases their adjustment does not come so I easily. So this office invites the. , veteran to bring his home diffi- . culties to us. Some years ago it was our privilpe to take advanced psychology and counsel- ; ing at Purdue under D;'. O. F. Hall who had as our special lecturer Dr. Dorsey, Detroit's famous psychiatrist which was I indeed a great treat to us. As he ; stated, "You never will have all
the answers, but hearing a man's story means more than you ever will realize to him." So we invite the veteran to come that we might hear his story, and trust that in hearing it we might help. We too have had experience in budgeting the men. If one of our veterans returns and finds himself heavilv indebted and wishes for us to assist, we invite them to come that we might work out a plan whereby we can perhaps pool his debts and give him a better outlook on life. We have found In our ex
perience of handling men that
sometimes they sink so deep in debt that they feel there is no way out, but after careful work
ing together we find there is no one but who . is willing to ' give a fellow a chance if he tries. Then too, recently our de- ; partmeht was asked to take over ' the reemployment as a member, of the Selective Service System, therefore all employment will come from this office. If you know of any work, or have a place open for employment, kindly get in touch with this office at once.

AN ARTIST'S CONCEPTION of the Pacirio ocean's submarine earthquake that sent mountainous tidaj waves tanning toward the Hawaiian islands, the Aleutians and the California coast, is shown above, while at the left is a closeup of the seismograph chart niaila at Fordham university, New York, indicating the times at which the impulses of the earthquake were recorded. The tidal waves took a toll of an estimated 150 lives and left thousands homeless, with the city of Hilo, sprawled along the beautiful coast of Hawaii, suffering the worst devastation. Military and civil officials in the stricken areas are endeavoring to head off a serious threat of disease brought on by the disruption of water and sanitation facilities. (International)

This Morning's Headlines URGES NATIONS GIVE UP RIGHT TO WAR A dramatic appeal by General MacArthur for all nations to "abolish war as a sovereign right." opened the new Allied council for Japan a meeting at which Russia promptly poured in proposals.
Soon after MacArthur finished his address, in which he emphasized the council's role was advisory, Russia proposed: 1. Exclusion of the press from all meetings; the plan was shelved in favor of a compromise to admit the press to major meetings. 2. Council members be permitted to see Mat-Arthur's directives seven days prior to issuance." 3. New elections in the event the majority of deputies who win Diet seats prove "unsuitable." 4. Internationalization of the council secretariat. The Russians were told that the proposals on the directives and
! the elections would appear in the minutes and be shown to MacAr
thur; the secretariat proposal will be brought up at the next meeting 10 days hence.

The' action first of its kind ever taken by a state department was made under an eight-day-old anti-strike law, invoked by Governor Walter E. Edge in order that "the public interest, health and welfare shall not be interfered with." 1 ' v ' ,' '"IT';.

RUPTURE Enert Coming Here Aeain
R. K. SIIALLENT5ERGER Well-known expert, of Indianapolis, will personally demonstrate his method without charge at Davis Hotel, Sullivan, Monday, April 8th from 2 p. m. to 6 p. m. Mr. Shallenberger says the Shallenberger method contracts the openings in remarkably short time on the average case, regardless of th size or location of the rupture, and no matter how much you lift or strain, and puts you back to work the same day as ef
ficient as before you were ruptured. The Shallenberger Rupture Shield has no leg strap; waterproof, sanitary, practically indestructible, and can be worn while bathing. Each shield is skillfully molded and fitted to the parts under heat, which gives a perfect fit and satisfaction. Large and difficult ruptures following operations especially solicited. Do not overlook this opportunity if you want gratifying results. Mailing address, 2152 North Meridian, Indianapolis, Ind. Advertisement.
