News Of The City Schools ELM PARK I - Friday, March 15 was a fine I. spring day and all the boys and i girls seemed happy, but the happiest one' was our janitor, v Mr. O. A. Stanbaugh. It was Mr. , ' Stanbaugh's 75th birthday. The V boys and girls and teachers showered him ., with' birthday r cards, fruit, candy and other , gifts to sho.w their appreciation ; for the many things he does. In i the afternoon he talked to the W various groups. He expressed his I love for Elm Park, where his j' own boys and girls had gone to school and where he still has .I many little friends. . Mr. - Stanlbaugh has been janitor in Sullivan schools for twenty years. He spent many years at the High t School and the past few years r at Elm Park. . Mrs. Emmett Wright and daughter, Betty and Miss Ruth ,i Clark visited the first and fourth i l grade rooms this week. f A fine collection of sea shells,' ; . Plants and . other things was V shown to the tliird and fourth , grades by Miss Clark and Mr. George Garretson. They had V made the collection on a recent trip to Florida and Key West. K'Mr, Garretson made quite an interesting talk about the trip. Miss Carol McCoy, our second i. grade teacher, has been ill for the past two days. Mrs. Iva ' Myers and Mrs. Faye Sisson w substituted for her. As a part of the religious pro gram promoted in the high school, Blue Tri and Hi-Y are offering on Mondays and Thursdays a series of meditations en titled "Thought for Today." The purpose is to offer strength and guidance by providing a1 few minutes of silent devotion and serious reflection at the beginning of the day. The program reaches students and teachers through the public address system. IN RESEARCH STUDY Groups representing each of the four high school classes re cently participated in a research study rponsored by Purdue University. The three-part psychological study included . "Impressions of People," "Personality Traits," and '.'Home Scale." The study was conducted unthe supervision of Dr. Alma Long, of the Division of Education and Applied Psychology, of Purdue University. Mr. and Mrs. Abe Curtis of Indianapolis, visited relatives here during the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Stafford and family of Washington, were weekend guests of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Roe. Mrs. Rebecca Carlin has returned to her home here after aj week's visit in Lawrenceville, Ill.with her daughter, Mrs. Alec Adams and family. v Mrs. Franklin Duncan and daughter, Karen Kay, of Palestine, 111., are the guests of Mrs. Duncan's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gilman of North Section St. Mr. and Mrs. Alec Adams of Lawrenceville, 111., spent the week-end in Sullivan with Mrs. Rebecca Carlin and other relatives. Don Richmond left Tuesday morning for Pittsfield, Illinois where ha will join the orchestra of Jack Everett. The band is touring the country. Mr. and Mrs. James Warrender of California have returned to their home after being oalled here because of the death "of Mrs. Warrender's mother, Mrs. Jessie Houston. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fiches have returned to their home at Evansville after being called here because of the dPath f Mrs. Fiches' mother, Mrs. Jessie Houston. Miss Mary Robbins spent the week-end in Springfield, Illinois, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Bill Blocher. Mrs. Blocher is the former Betty Robbins. ' Misses Catherine Robbins and Mary Lou Hiatt spent the weekend in Terre Haute visiting Mrs. Josephine Stitzel.

Missing Heiress'
Companion Oolie J. Williams, 24, divorced father of two children, who was taken into custody in Detroit for investigation on charges of violating the Mann Act when he was found living in an apartment with 16-year-old Suzanne Froedtert, long-missing Milwaukee heiress. The Froedtert girl had been the subject of an intensive search since she disappeared from exclusive Edgewood Academy at Madison, Wis., on March 11. She had obtained employment in Detroit and had $1 when arrested with Williams on a juvenile delinquency count. Williams was penniless. (International Soundphoto.) .75

The federation and their guests assembled at the American Legion Home where. an enjoyable and profitable eve ning was spent. A group of boys from Sullivan High School, under the direction of Miss Mild-' red Williams, sang two splendid selections. They were accompanied at the piano by. Mrs. Rudolph Wernz. The sneakar iW the occasion was Miss Gertrude McCombs of Terre Haute president of the Indiana State Fed eration of Public School Teachers. Delegations of teachers from Dugger, Carlisle and Graysville enjoyed the hospitality of the local teachers.
