This Morning's Headlines HOUSE GROUP BACKS PRICE CURBS Modified extension of the price control act for another year, and maintenance of existing federal income tax rates were recommended by the House post-war economic policy committee. The committee, headed by Repr. Colmer, D., Mississippi, cautioned that effective control of inflationary forces will be "impossible without the aid of strong fiscal and monetary counter measures."

QUARRY SLAYER APPROVES JURY A grand jury investigation of the stone quarry slaying of a former choir leader and his soprano sweetheart began at Bloomington, Ind., after a Negro held in the double slaying told Judge Q. Austin East he had no objections to any member of the investigating body. U. S. CALLS ON RUSS TO LEAVE IRAN The United States last night called upon Russia to live up to its agreements and get out of Iran immediately. The State Department made public the note delivered to Moscow yesterday. It said that the United States "can not remain indifferent" to the Soviet decision to keep troops in Iran. And it asked an answer "promptly."

TEHERAN RIOTING FLARES Three persons were killed and five wounded in a new outbreak of street fighting between leftists and rightwing elements as Russia's intentions in northeastern Iran remained clouded.

RUSS TO ATTEND "MONEY" TALKS Russia belatedly decided to take part in the international monetary conference. United States officials were elated at the decision although the Soviet group will sit only a9 observers, along with eight other powers which have not yet ratified the Bretton Woods agreements creating an International Bank and Monetary Fund.

Color lifts what would otherwise be a drab, monotone world into an interesting visual fairyland, says the Better Vision Institute. Color gives life, spirit and variety to our clothes, our homes and our surroundings. Most of our knowledge and appreciation of life comes to us through our eyes; the cream of our visual experience is found in color. Birds, animals and insects in general have eyes that possess but poor color discrimination. Perhaps this lack results from the fact that lower animals do not possess brains as well developed as human, brains, and therefore could not appreciate a world of color where all the hues of the rainbow are splashed in endless variety. But whatever the reason, the appreciation of

I color definitely is a cultural 5

acmevemeni. Much of what we term "human culture" stems from the ability of the eyes to see, and our minds to appreciate color. Color has a strong emotion

al effect upon people. Yellow is cheering, like the sunshine. Green is cool and refreshing. Red is warm and blue is cool. Skillful combination of colors in one's clothes and surroundings adds much to the comfort and enjoyment of life. One's personality is expressed in the patterns of color developed in hats, suits, rugs and furniture Modern optometry paves the way for you to guard your eyes to assure you of the full enjoyment of all things that goes with good eyesight. Come in tor a checkup soon. DR. C.E. FISHER Optometrist Phone 420.

NOTICE TO NOJf-RKSIDKNTS THE STATE OF INDIANA, SULLIVAN COUNTY. In the Sullivan Circuit Court. February Term. 3(M6 Charles H. Halberstadt vs. Elizabeth Halberstadt Complaint No. 30707. Cause of Action Complaint for Divorce BE IT KNOWN, That on this 28th day of February, in the year 1946. the above named plaintiff, by Paul P. Boyle Attorney, filed in the office of the Clerk of the Sullivan Circuit Court his complaint against the defendant in the above entitled cause, together with an affidavit of a competent person that said defendant Elizabeth Halberstadt is not resident of the State of Indiana. Said defendant therefore' is hereby notified of the filing and pendency of said complaint against her, said cause of action being Complaint for Divorce, and that unless she appears and answers or demurs thereto at the calling of said cause at the Court House In Sullivan County, and State Of Indiana, on the 26th (lav of April 1946 said complaint, and the Matters and thines therein contained and alleged,. will be heard and determined in her absence. WITNESS, the Clerk and Seal of said Court, this 2Sth day of February, 19)6. JAMES H. RINGER, Clerk Sullivan Circuit Court. Paul P. Boyle. Attorney for Plaintiff. 1st ins 3-1-46 3t.

With over 300 active cases in the files we have come to the place that we must urge each

tone to be sure and bring in iheir (discharge and all letters per- ' taining to their case. On a number of occasions we have an

office full of waiting people and a veteran comes in without his discharge or letters from the administration pertaining to their case and they begin to guess lit their serial number, claim number, and dates of entry into :ha service, whether they entered service at Evansville, Indianapolis or shown as Sullivan County. All these things are on a veterans discharge and instances it will show Sullivan County, Indianapolir, Fort Harrison or even Evansville. When we mail such guesswork to the Veteran's Administration they will return for correction. It holds the case up. It causes this office unnecessary time and expense a? well at the Veteran's Administration office. Imagine 92 county offices like this and hundreds who write direct to the Veteran's Administration with such poor information Then we do feel like staling to a man that he must have his pnpers and discharge before we can heir). Another rule that is good to follow. Don't seek too much help. For instance we discourage helping a veteran when he comes and presents his case. In his communications he has letters handled by, say, perhapr first a

veteran's organization, Post Ser-1 vice Officer, the next a con-1 gressman's, then a senator's, and perhaps the Red Cross, The point is, all the above are fine and well

qualified, but we must ::tick to one organization. Just recently a veteran's wife presented her papers. In them were correspondence from another organiza

tion only a month or so old. We .hesitated to enter in. This of course was noticed by the party. We tried in a kind way to ask I her to go back to this organization. She refused and took offense. So we took up her case

where it ' was pending by the other organization. Letters were written and before such communications could be made she came to the office and asked for all of her papers, also a copy of the letters and work we had done, this of course, was not denied her, as much as we would like

J to. Then in about a week or

more we received the information we needed from the Veteran's Administration. When we contacted her we discovered that since the call to our office

she had asked the other veteran's organizations to help and the papers she needed, one of the other organizations had sent away to be settled. We are glad to help . you, but under mass demobilization it takes time for the government to act. We regret that Miss Ann

conflict. He was killed in action in France on October 28, 1944. Miss Abel therefore can meet the veterans with a sympathetic approach and in the remembrance of a brother is meeting the task mo:t splendidly. , Remember, too our work is so heavy that the director does not have interviews on Tuesdays or Fridays. In order to keep our cases up and get such evidence that is needed , and preoare claims, we must have a little time to prepare them, Thos. M. Jennings.
