; MR. WILLIS IS BOOSTED DOWN STAIRS Indiana' "organization" Republicans, who are backing 'epublican State Chairman and Gates-Righthand-Man Wilam E. Jenner for the Senate, are openly peeved by the fact hat the Chicago Tribune has stated editorially that "Senator Villis is beyond all doubt the strongest candidate the party an present to the voters." Jenner and his friends, according to report, declined to diriment on the editorial ; but "other Republicans who speak he organization, view, said that while Mr. Willis's record is beve reproach" (again we say, what record?) "his years and lis 'lack of color' handicap him. They consider Mr. Jenner a 'outhful, colorful possibility with a good campaign personify." : . 1 Mr. Willis's isolationist views and background make him, f course, an ideal candidate in the estimation of Col. Bertie IcCormick and his kind. The Tribune was not infrequently tuoted by the Nazi propagandists before and during the war. A boost from the Tribune should be the equivalent of a ick down stairs.

IK the next two days a succession of witnesses testified for Hopton Stoddard against Roark. Prominent architects denounced the Temple as an insult to religion, to accepted standards and traditions. On the fourth day, the plaintiff's last witness was called. Dcn nique Francon took the stand. The attorney was wvned; she was unrehearsed; she had refused to be coached. t , "Mr. Stoddardshould have sued, not for alteration costs but for demolition cocts," Dominique said. Let us destroy, but don't let us pretend that we are committing an act of virtue. Let us say that we areoles and we object to mountain peaks." - "Your witness," the attorney snapped to Roark. ' "No questions," said Roark. Dominique left the stand. The plaintiff rested. The judge motioned to Roark to proceed. Roark walked up to the bench, a brown envelope in hand. He took out of the envelope ten photographs of the Stoddard Temple and laid them on U:e judge's desk. He said, "The defense rests," , . Hopton Stoddard won the suit. Scarret pleaded, "You've read my editorial this morning, 'A Victory for Decency.' We, can't have one writer running against our whole policy." "You'll have to print it or I'll have to quit." Scarret cabled Gail Wynand in Bali. The order to fire "Dominique shot back. Ellsworth Toohey got a copy from an office boy. He took it to her. He said. "You can't even resign, my dear. You can't make that sacrifice to your hero." Later, Dominique said to Scarret: "Nothing that you can do to me or to Roark will be worse than what I'll do to myself..." (Continued
