E. Ward, mentor of the Shelburn Panthers, today verified the report that former Head Basketball Coach Paul Weekley will assume his duties at the Shelburn High School this week or the first of next week. The former coach was discharged from the United States Army several days ago. j Since Mr. Weekley's departure for military service the Panthers have been under the guidance of Mr. Ward, who also has carried ! on his duties as principal of the Shelburn schools. For a year the Panthers were directed by Perle Fisher, now a teacher in Sullivan High School. ! Mr. Ward, before coming to Shelburn some fifteen years ago, taught in the Merom High School and also coached the Beavers, i During his pinch-hitting as coach I at Shelburn, he has directed his team to the Wabash Valley Finals at Terre Haute both seasons and this year attained the admirable position of runner-up for the championship title. Must Cancel Games. -Whatever position Weekley will assume in his return to the Shelburn school, Mr. Ward stated today that their joint efforts will be given fully to directing the Panthers through the rest of a highly expectant season. Due to advancements in Wabash Valley tournament play, Mr. Ward stated that remaining games scheduled with Farmersburg, New Lebanon and Pimento would be cancelled with the consent of officials of these schools. The Hymera game of February 15th will be played if the other three can be cancelled, he said.

DEPARTMENT OF

VETERANS AFFAIRS We feel that the public is en titled to know what has been accomplished in the four months we have worked as well as the difficulties we have faced and are facing now. In the four months we have had 1100 interviews and now have over 230 cases in our files. We have secured a number of pensions for men who we feel are more than deserving; secured medical treatment for veterans both locally and at the veterans hospitals. Back pay and errors on discharges have been taken care of in many cases. The fact of the matter is, we are facing this difficulty. We parents have been doing all the things in our power to speed our boys back home until it is not doing justice for them. Too many instances we have on record in our office here boys have been discharged when they should have been hospitalized. So our boys are coming in now seeking our assistance and sometimes we are almost helpless to help them. Our county has been badly in need of doctors for years: It is necessary to have a boy examined and proper papers filled out before they can enter the hospital. So if a veteran fails, to have a family doctor it is hard to get such service. This office has no funds to pay doctors, the Veterans Administration has not been able to locate a doctor so when a man applies for medical exam they are to pay for such service. We know there are a lot of fellows who get the idea of having an ache or pain just for .the nurpose of filing for a pension. So when a doctor examines this fellow and finds nothing wrong and charges him a fee it doesn't go well with the fellow : and especially when the doctor names bis fee for such examination. So 1 trust that all of you who read these items and have loved ones in the ' service will write, and urge them , to be ' honest ' with themselves and the government and see that they slow down on getting out and then they can come out physically fit or ' be treated properly for their disabilities before leaving the service. Our work is getting heavy, our files are getting large , so we urge your t cooperation, Ba sure you bring your discharge and all papers pertaining to your case with you when you come. Some days we don't get away at noon. We have changed, from Thursday , to Friday to be out of the office. ' We feel we should be here on Thursday as the boys come from all over the county to register that day. So remember to keep our work up rthe-director -will not "see anyone at the office on Tuesday or Fri day, however all blanks and in formation . will . be . available these days and will be given you by Miss Hamilton, the . assistant director but the director will not have office interviews' those two days. Cases have to be worked out and studied so we reserve these two days for outside work and to study cases. Remember, second floor Court House is where we are located. 'STOLEN' CAR IN GARAGE EVERETT, Mass. (UP) Add embarrassing moments. William Poe of Everett told police his automobile was stolen. Two hours later he returned to report he found it at the garage where he left it in the first place.
