Roosevelt,' poliomyelitis was considered a "local affair." . On isolated farms and in teeming cities, men, women and children often fought the disease with inadequate resources. Today a national network of the National Foundation's local chapters stands ready to combat polio wherever it appears and to provide continuing care for victims of former outbreaks. March of Dimes contributions built that network and maintain it today.
