A PEOPLE DELIVERED
! LH6SON TEXT Exodus 6:6-8; 13:17 S2.
, GOLDEN TEXT I will trust, and not;
be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah .'en the Lord, Is my strength. Isaiah 12:2.
i "Is thy God able to deliver thee?" was the question asked of Daniel in the lions' den (Dan. 6:20). It is in the minds and on the lips of many In every hour . of crisis. God is able to deliver. Moses
found that out when in answer to bis complaint that the Lord had done nothing for his suffering people (Exod. 5:22), the Lord revealed Himself as the One who was not only able but ready to take them out of their bondage, j I. God's Promise (6:6-8). : Moses was to remember that he was dealing with the Eternal One, unchangeable, and always true to His word and able to m.tke His will come to pass (v. 2, 3). T So often men in dealing with God
think of Him in terms of their own weakness and failure. What we need is to have a Godlike conception of God, not a manlike idea of
Him. God is the infinite and the Eternal One with whom we have no right to quarrel, and whose dealtags with us are too high for us to judge (Ps. 139:1-6). God's covenant with His people was established (v. 4). lie iad heard their cry (t. 5), and His deliverance was sure (v. 6). The only 'thing Moses had to do was to wait and see God work. ! That word "wait" is a little one. It seems to call for no effort, to be easy of fulfillment; yet it . seems to
be the hardest thine for a human i
being to do. Christians who can speak and work for God when things - are active and moving become 1 querulous and despondent when
AT THE CHURCHES
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SERVICES "Sacrament" is the subject ct the Lesson-Sermon an all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, January 13. The Golden Text is: "What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord" (Psalms 116: 12, 13). . Among the citations which comprise the Lesson-Sermon is the following' from the Bible: "And there was also a strife among them, which of them should bo accounted the greatest. And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them;" and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let n De as tne vouner; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve" (Luke 22:24-26). The Lesson-Sermon also includes the following passages from the Christian Science textbook,"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "We cannot choose for ourselves, but must work out our salvation in the way Jesus taught. In meekness and might, he was found preaching the gospel to the poor. Pride and fear are unfit to bear the standard of Truth, and God will never place it in such hands" (p. 30). "Meekness and charity have divine authority" (p. 270).

what to do, and He did it, for their
good. God has a plan, not only for the nations, but also for individuals, for your life and mine. Let us find His will for us, for it is good, acceptable and perfect (Rom. 12:1, 2).V Note the honoring of the faith of Joseph in God's promise (v. 19). The memory of his assurance was a blessing to his descendants,' and they honored it and. him. What will our descendants have to say about our faith in God? . . ; III. God's Presence (13:20-22). ' , Our God does not just send a plan or program to His people. He is always with them and is ready to go before them. God's plan is made known to His people as they follow Him step by step. This means that there must be guidance, moment by moment, if His plan is to be worked out. He gives such guidance and it is only when His children fail to follow it .that the pattern of life becomes
oeniusea. The field of divine guidance is one in which Christians have widely j divergent experiences. Some know .the sweet, unconf used daily experience of God's hand upon them, caring for everi the minor .details, (or are they minor? ) of life. Others have known the directive power of God in some life crisis, but not in the ordinary affairs of life. Many, and perhaps most, think of divine guidance as a spiritual theory of whica the preacher talks, but know nothing of it in their own lives. -

Faith or the Jack of it. Those who . trust God accept and receive His ' blessed leadership moment by moment. It is as simple'as that Others reach out and take it when the pressure of life makes them cast ;-thernselves'on God. Others simply ., muddle along "doing their best," j which is not their best, for God is not in. it. : 1 v The pillar of cloud, which became luminous at night, was ideal for th guidance of Israel. It provided shade from the hot sun by day, and it was a sure guide in the darkness of the night.. . . i We who believe in Christ have

After one of the hard-fought battles of the war, a chaplain was called hastily to see a dying soldier. Taking his hand he said, "Well, my brother, what can I do for you?" He supposed that the young fellow would want to cry to God for help in his extremity, but it was not so. "Chaplain," he said, "I want you to cut a lock of hair from my head for my mother; and then, Captain, I want you to kneel down and return thanks to God for me." "For what?" asked the chaplain. "For giving me such a mother. Oh, she was a good mother! Her teachings are my comfort now. And then, Chaplain, thank God that by His grace I am a Christian. What would I do if I were net a Christian? And thank Him for dying grace. He makes this hard bed feel as soft as downy pillows are. And oh, Chaplain, thank Him for the promised home in glory I'll soon be there." "And so," said the chaplain, "I knelt by his bed with not a petition to utter only praises and thanksgiving for a good mother, a Christian home, dying gr'ace, and an eternal home in glory."
This is an appeal to the mothers who weull if they were able send a part of themselves with their children as they grow into adulthood and t '.' ; mingle With the world. However, there comes a timewhen you canjtiotbg . there, when only your teachings can hold if they are deeply implapted. Therefore, if you would give them a solid foundation for your teachings and seek a comforter to go with your child when you cannot go, begin todaj' to bring him or her to church every Lord's Day. The church of your faith is holding open house every Lord's Day . . . especially for you!
