The plane most seriously dam aged belonged to Kenneth San

building seemed to fall on the plane, crushing it into the
groiind.
A preliminary survey placed
the damage at more than thousand dollars.
The plane belonging to Dr. M. E. Tomak was also torn up to the extent of about five or six hun
dred dollars. This was dismantled and brought . into the Ford garage for storage after the storm. A plane belonging to Paris Vaughn of Linton and Jack Duncan of (BJoqmfield also cme? in for its 'share," although not quite

Jim Harmon, manager of the

be done was to tear it down, and rebuild it from the salvaged parts. -

The Golden Arrows, traveling
with precision and dispatch in the two opening games of the season, hit the first of a series of tough tests when they play Garfield at the Stadium in Terre Haute Friday night. . . . Although held to a 6-6 tie at Linton Friday night, the Purple Eagles should be one of the real powerhouses of Wabash Valley football this year. We're told they will, average
around 175 pounds per man and most of the starters will be veterans. . . . You'll remember that
the star-studded Arrows barely
came through against them in our own backyard last year, waging a
sensational three-touchdown drive
in five' minutes to overcome a two-touchdown lead and gain a bitterly contested victory. . . . Coach Bill Jones has had his fingers crossed all season and most dyed-in-the-wool fans believe we'll find out just how potent the 1945 Arrows are when they hit Garfield. ... The Sullivan team is one of the best conditioned outfits in- the Valley and their spirit is the finest we've seen in several years. That might make the difference between victory and defeat in the tough battles. . . Fans have been generous with
their support. Despite threatening, weather for the first two games,! a large crowd went to Washington j with the Arrows and another' large turnout of Arrow boosters
filled the stands at Bicknell Friday night. They'll storm Terre Paute Friday if the gasoline is available. . . Harry Wey, who I was line coach here under Spike Kelly and who helped tutor Sullivan teams to a number of championships, writes us a note appealing for a copy of the S.H.S. football schedule and writeup of the early , games. Harry, now a Captain in the Army, reports that he wa? on Leyte at the time he wrote, was leaving for Manila and will go to Yokohama from there. His outfit has been engaged : in
cleaning up any hostile guerrillas that hadn't surrendered. Harry, -who -expects te-be-in -the Orient
until next spring, hopes to be coaching football again by Auumn !946. He sends reeards to
"the' bl' gang" here arid also: dis-!
closes that his ' nine-month-old, red-headed son is 4 almost big
enough to don . a football suit. . . . Looking over the field we see that Evansville Reitz, generally a tough customer, defeated Boonville by one touchdown. Bicknell was beaten by the same margin by Boonville, which makes Sullivan look a little better than Reitz on comparative
scores. . . . westvule, Illinois, nosed out Clinton in a grudge game at Clinton and injuries suffered by Gilman, Wildcat star,
early in the game probably had no
Devereaux Home
little bearing on the outcome.
. . . Vincennes demonstrated that j they have power with a topheavy win over their natural rivals, Lawrenceville, Illinois. ; ... New Albany crushed Bloom- j
ington in an S.I.A.C. joust and Brazil was subdued by a twotouchdown last quarter rally on the . part of heavily-manned Wiley of Terre Haute. It was a hard jolt to Brazil fans, who be
lieved they had their best team in .
years this time. . . . Robinson, 111, showed they still have something left with a close victory over Gerstmeyer of Terre Haute. . . . Spike Kelly's team kept winning, getting by LaPorte by a baseball score of 6 to 2.
