The document declared that Sir Samuel Hoare, British ambassador to Madrid, cabled Viscount Halifax, then British foreign secretary, that Laval intended to. use the French fleet an'd military units in recovering" French colonies which had declared for' General De Gaulle's Free French regiffe. Hoare said he obtained the information from the French ambassador.
