Holland, and Germany from 23 October 1944 to 1 May 1945. During this period of combat with the enemy, Lieutenant Kimmell performed his duties as platoon sergeant and platoon leader in a highly meritorious manner. On one occasion, when the. company his platoon was supporting was mnking its first attack and beTame somewhat disorganized when, the enemy placed extremely heavy machine-gun fire on them, Lieutenant Kimmell made his way back several hundred yards across fire-swept terrain to reach his platoon and lead them to advantageous positions where they quickly neutralized the enemy weapons. On this and many other occasions Lieutenant KimmeJl's courage and leadership insured the maximum support for the rifle companies and reflected the highest credit on himself and the military service. Entered military service from Shelburn, Indiana. "By command of the Division Commander."
