JUNIOR HIGH INTEE3 - CLASS CONTEST CLOSES
The Junior High inter-class contest ended this week with a .final score of 410 points for the eighth grade and 285 points for , the seventh grade. The last twoi i events that were held between! the classes were the Assembly programs and the Softball games. The scholastic events of the program reached a climax with the presentation of a seventh and an eighth grade assembly program on April 27. The seventh grade program was built on the theme, "The History of Indiana." Zoe Coulson was the mistress of ceremonies, who introduced the scenes of the pantomime in rhyme. The first scene, an Indian Village, depicted the home life of the Indians. The women carried their papooses on their backs. The men bartered their furs with the whites. The chief, Wesley Cox, and his braves, Charles Reed, Leslie Cox, Aimer Oldham and John Neal, danced around the fire. The second scene, pioneer days, showed a cradle, two hundred years old, in which a baby received the attentions of a pioneer mother, Mary Frances Allen, and also of a sister, Harriet Knowles. The costumes were authentic for that period. The gaiety of the day was expressed in the "Virginia Reel" which was danced by Carolyn McCoy, Carolyn Milan, Anna Lou Morgan, Richard Thudium, Bobby Boston and Johnny Neal. The final scene was' the seventh grade chorus, under the direction of Miss Williams, singing "Back Home Again in Indiana." Clifford Rice and the chorus sang "On the Banks of the Wabash," followed by the national anthem. i Miss WUliams provided music for the pantomime; Miss Shepherd trained the dancers, and the whole cast was directed by Mrs. Powell. The eighth grade program called "The Hollywood Cavalcade," which consisted of imitations of various movie and radio stars. Billy Mac Smith as Bob Hope was the master of ceremonies, while other stars who appeared on this program were: Barbara Scott as Betty Hutton, who sang "The Rocky Horse Ran Away;" Don Davenport as Bing Crosby, who sang "Evelina," Jim mie Sevier -as Frank Sinatra, singing "Saturday Night;" Martha Hamilton, Shirley Chambers and Joan Godfrey appeared as the Andrews Sisters, singing "Straighten Up and Fly Right;" Linda Weisbecker as Katharine Hepburn gave a monologue entitled "Beauregard." Jerry' McCammon topped the performance as a Powers model. This program was written and directed by the following student committee: Jinny Robinson, Donna Whitmore, Ann Briggs and Jimmie Scott. The judges tied on the decision and each grade received 25 com7th
