MAY RESTRICT DRAFT CALLS TO AGE" OF 18. Some congressional leaders believe that all men over 18 who are still civilians when Germany falls will never be drafted for the war against Japan. There is a widespread report that the War Department expects to draft nothing but 18-year-olds after the European war ends. Possibly anticipating such a policy, Senator Tom Stewart, Democrat, Tennessee, introduced an amendment to the Selective Service Act requiring six months pre-.combat training for all servicemen under 10. STATE PURCHASES MANSION FOR GOVERNORS. Indiana yesterday purchased the J. H. Trimble home, 4343 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis, for a new home for Hoosier governors. The state will take possession May 15th. Purchase price of the home, including furnishings, is $72,500. The 1945 General Assembly appropriated $100,000 for the purchase and furnishing' of a new mansion for the governor. The act provided that the transaction must have approval of the budget committee. Two years ago, acting under a 1943 legislative act, the budget committee in approval, declined to be a party to the transaction. The 1945 act was drawn to eliminate requirement of approval by Governor Ralph F. Gates. - - The present Governor's Mansion, 101 East 27th Street, has Served as the(home of Indiana's chief executives since the administration of former Governor Warren T. McCray, almost 25 years ago. It was given to the state by the city of Indianapolis for this specific purpose and will revert to the city when Governor and Mrs. Gates take over the new mansion. N
