Manager and Assistant Editor Entered as second-class matter July 1, 1908 in the Postoffice at Sullivan, Indiana, under the Act of Congress of March 3, 1879. It asked the senators this question: "Would you, on basis of information now available, vote for or against United States entrance into a new world sefuritv council to be established at the San Francisco conference?" ' The overall results, as announced, follow: Unequivocally "yes" 49. Probably "yes" 4. ."No" 0. ' ' "Reservations" (Senators who declared they, were un
prepared to commit themselves; those who said their answer denended on specific conditions; those who said they were
awaiting further developments, and those who expressed other qualifications) 34....' ' t Senators who flatly refused to discuss the poll or were unavailable for comment 9. Grouping the "yes" and "probably" returns 11 more -enators are needed to reach the figure of 64 necessary for atification. PM said it should be sharply emphasized that ;hose tabulated as "resewationists" cannot be construed as solid diehard opposition team. ., . The conclusion of the paper was that the battle for peace :s far from won. " V - We emphasized in our editorial that the public must keep after its senators to assure that this time we win the peace as well as the war; An artist tells us that green is a restful color. Yes, especially with a picture of Washington or Lincoln on it. Perhaps the reason Hitler has stayed so long as head . man in Germany is because he can't get away from the job, ' It is usually -easier to admire these "contented" drivers after you have found a way to get past them. : '- Y--'m":'' :.. ; '. This Mornings Headlines ; PORK AND LARD POINTS BOOSTED. The OPA last night ' ordered a booh in ration point values for pork and pork products I effective next Sunday. Increases also were ordered for lard, short- " enirig, margarine, salad and cooking oil. Point values for all cuts of "beef, Jamb, veal and butter remain unchanged.. Point values for - most cheese also remain the same. Increases for most pork cuts and pork products are one or two " points a pound. Center chops are advanced from 6 to 7; ham slice! from 10 to 12; loin roasts from 7 to 8. Sausages are advanced a point a pound, and there are increases . of one to two points for most sausage products, meat in tin or glass " containers and for many ready-to-eat meats. Lard, shortening, salad and cooking oils go up from 4 to 6 points a pound and margarine from 5 to 8 points.
. RATIONING TIGHTENS, DISCUSS MEAT SHORTAGE. The "OPA increased pork ration point values to spread small supplies more evenly, shortly after Senate investigators tossed back to OPA the packers' phase of the meat shortage problem. The Senate agriculture committee, invesigating the civilian meat shortage, a short lime earlier checked by to OPA the packers' demands for "a small, reasonable profit." Chairman Thomas, Democrat, Oklahoma, told the committee that attorneys for the packers and the OPA will try to work out an agreement. The committee will resume its inquiry into
the asserted "price squeeze'' next month if no agreement i meanwhile, he said. 11
