JESUS AND THE TWELVE ; 1E5SON TEXT Matthew 10:1, .5-8; 11: , 1, 25-30. - ; 0 OLDEN TEXT Ye are my friends, I if ye do' whatioever I command you. John 15:14, j Service for Christ has not always ' been as impressive and effective as it should be because it has lacked conviction and spiritual power.. God did .6tjnterid it to be the weak and faltering tint g that it often Is, because of our failure to go God's way, Tiie sending out of the twelve had special significance, and yet jt bangs forth principles which have a bearing on the service of every believer in Christ. I The Servants of Christ i I. Have a Divine Commission (10: 1, 5-8). ' ' 1 The twelve disciples had already been' called into the Lord's service, rjow they- were to be prepared for xhe -service which was ahead. It was a time of commissioning and empowerment for service. God calls men today to serve Him. In fact, there is a very real sense in which every Christian is called to serve. Let no one try to excuse himself from that responsibility and privilege. To some comes a special call to leave their accustomed daily work and launch out into a broader service for Christ. When that time comes, we may go forth with the assurance that the power of.'a divine Saviour goes with us. The twelve disciples had some special powers which we do not have and do not need. God suits the power to the need, and that means that in every circumstance we may look to Him with assurance, and go on. One of our difficulties in dealing with such matters as spiritual power is that we interpret the tilings of thu realm of the spirit by physical standards and measurements. 'We arc so quick to say "I cannot" on the basis of our' logical human reasoning, when an appreciation of, the power .of God which is operative on our 'behalf would make us say with confidence. "I can." But, sadly enough, having left God out of our reckoning, we find that it is indeed true that we cannot. " Serving Christ means doiiu; so hi His power, and with His grace upon is, Nothing less will do! Nothing !-; is needed! IF. Declare a Divine It c vela t .ion ;ii:l, ZJ-27). CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SERVICES (SnW i :1r sill)lPfc of thfl The Uolden Text is: "uoa is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24). Among the citations which comprise the Lesson-Sermon is the following from the Bible: "And Moses said unto the Lord, 0 my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou host spoken unto thy servant: but I an: slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. And the anger of the Lord was kindied against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he Cometh forth to meet ther: .ind whm Tip seeth thee, he will, Dc giaa in nis ncarc. Ana mou a And thou shall spealuintoium, anaptu, worusinujH mouth: andlwill be with thy moulh, snd with his mouth, and will tench you what ye shall do" (Exodus 4:10 14, 15). The Lessoa-'Sermon also includes the following - passages from th Christian Science textbook. "Seieiica and Health witii Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "IE ,onc believes that he cannot be an orator without study or a superip duced condition, the body responds to this belief, and the tongue prows mute which before was eloquent. . . . We are aS capable of more than we do. The influence or action of Soul confers a freedom, which explains the phenomena ot improvisation ana the fervor of untutored lips" (p. 89). ST. LIFE'S LESSON I learn as (lie years roll onward And, I leave the past behind, That much 1 had counted sorrow But proves that God is kind; That many a flower I longed for Had hidden a thorn of pain, And many a nigged bypath Led to fields of ripened grain. The clouds that cover the sunshine, They cannot banish the sun, And the earth shines out the brighter When the weary rain is done. . We must stand in the deepest shadow To sec the dearest light; And often through wrong's own darkness Comes the living strength of light. We must live through the dreary winter If we would value the spring; 1 And i.lio woods must be. cold and silent Before the robins sing. The 'f lowers must be buried in darkness Before they can bud and bloom, And the sweetest, warmest sunshine Comes after the storm and the gloom,

Men dioand juen live. Children are bora and taken away. The eternal cycle of human life. Governed by an invisible band . , . by a being who so devised a plan that even in infinite being like you might be a part of it. Me gives and He takes away. And in those dark moments further .living seems impossible. But the broken threads in the web arc mended by that unseen hand and life goes on' as usual. But when that life has been taken away, has fits piurpose been fulfilled? We are promised three score and ten years in . which io live cur life tin earth but the Bible also says that man may shorten his days by his own conduct. What then happens' to cur pit ol the Master's plan? Are the threads rewound to eliminate our bit of the plan? Yes-possibly they are made into opportunities for someone else to accept. But cur place there cannot be Filed by another. Your place is ulloted yoa there. Will it be vacant when tbe gathering is made? It need not be. "Seek ye first the kingdom cf Heaven." "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; kneck, and it shall be opened unto you." Your nl. ee in the church of God's kingdom is waiting for you here!
