(1) Any etectric supplier who considers that compliance with this order by the persons whom it supplies directly and indirectly, will not reduce the consumption of coal or other scarce fucb may apply for exemption for the area it serves to the Office of War Utilities, War Production Board, Washington 25, D. C, Ref.: U-9. , ' (2) The War Production Board may from time to time issue directions exempting designated areas from this orotef if it finds that compliance within such areas will not reduce the consumption of coal or other scarce fuels in accordance with the purpose of this order. , (e) AFPL'ALS. Any person affected by this order who considers that compliance with this order will work an ex ceptional or unreasonable hardship on him or who considers that compliance will endanger public health or safety jnay appeal for relief to the District Office of the War Production Board for the area in which ths cdnsumer is located, Ref.: U-9. v ' (f) NOTICES. (1) Every electric supplier shall,; as soon as practicable, notify by publication or otherwise all per sons to whom it supplies electricity for uses prohibited by this order of the terms hereof. (2) If any electric supplier has knowledge of a violation of this order; by a person to whom it .supplies electricity, it shall inform the person of the violation. If the violation is continued, the electric supplier shaJI nciify the person in writing of the specific terms of the order which apply and of the penalties prescribed, for violation and shall mail a copy of the notice to the District Office of the War Production Board for the area in which the consumer is located, Ref.: U-9. , (g) VIOLATIONS. If the War Production Board determines that any person is using electricity in . violation of this order, it may direct the electric supplier serving such person to disconnect service and presce the conditions ande.r which service may be reconnected. In addition, any.person who wilfully violates any pro- . viwon of this order or who in connection with this order wilfully conceals a material fact or furnishes false information to any department or agency of the United States is guilty of a crime and upon 'conviction may be prunished by fine or imprisonment. Critical fuel shortages hav made' it necessary for eur Government to issue the above mandatory ordtr, vhkh becomes effective February 1, 1945. While there is no shortage of generating capacity, the producing of electricity requires many thousands of tons of coal and other critical fuels. To help conserve coal supplies, certain uses of electricity have beetf ordered discontinued. We know all of our customers realize this mandatory order was necsssary in the war effort and will cooperate by discontinuing: all unessential uses of electricity, even though some of them may, not be specifically mentioned in the above order. As a supplier of electricity, the Public Service Company of Indiana is required to'bring this order to the attention of all its customers using electricity. We are confident that we will have your wholehearted cooperation in carrying out the intent of this order. If any further information is desired7 please, contact our local office.
