COLUEN TEXT Beiiold, I am witl llioc. and will keep thee in all places ivhilluT thou goest. Genesis 28:15. , Matthew is the Gospel of the King j and His kingdom. It stresses the fulfillment of prophecy in the coming of Christ, the King. Alter His rejection, it tells us of the Church,' ";he kingdom in mystery," and of the death of Christ for our sins, His resurrection for our justification, and His glorious coming again. This then is an .important book which we study for the next three n.ouths. Teacher and student alike, should be enthusiastic and expectant. The genealogy cf the King, and the story "f His coming to earth, as t'.p babe of Bethlehem (both import;.i,t matters), are covered in chapter l, in our lesion we find Him j,s a little child. Observe how man received Him, and how God cared lor Him. Without assigning definite verses to our points we note that: I. Wen Received or Rejected Jesus. It has always been so. Men, then as now, were either for Him or stains!. Him. The world of today is far dilierenl I'roin that of the first century, but the difference is all on 1he outride. Almost breath-taking lace been the developments of modcrn science, but these have not duitviH the heart of man. He still i lean; and hates and lights and sins. His attitude toward Christ is unchanged. There are still only two classes of people in the world those who have Received Christ and are saved, and' those who have rejected Him and are lost. 1. Men Are Against Christ. How do men show their rejection of God's Sun? Just as they did at His birth, by: h. 1-Var. They persisted until they found Ihc Christ. Then they listened to God and pro tected His Son by not returning to Herod. H. God rvotetlcd and Prepared Jesus. The ruin which sin had brought into the world could only be met by' redemption which Christ had come to bring. Some men had already shown their hatred for Jesus and their rejection of Him. But God still ruled, and for the sake of those who received Him (and would receive Him in all Ihc centuries since), He kepi Ihc Child Jesus from harm. We liud Him: 1. I'rolecling Jesus. Men may hale and seek to destroy God's Son. Satan may inspire them with ingen uily and cunning. But see how tha Eternal One spoke to Joseph ia dreams, how He prepared a place of refuge in Egypt and ultimately in Nazareth, where the boy Jesuj might increase in wisdom and slab ore and favor with God and man. 2. Preparing Jesus. God knew oi the days of public ministry vvhici were ahead, and above all, of thai ,kiy when on Golgotha's hill Chris; was, in His own body, to prepan salvation for you and for me. God is never taken by surprise. II moves forward to the completion ol His plan with the stately tread ol eternity. Ik- took Jesus to Egypt. 11 brought Him' again to Nazareth. It it all He was preparing His Sol for the days of ministry which werj ahead. All this was in fulfillment o prophecy (see vv. 15, 17), fiod'j Wori 13 always sure.

At Twelve...
The Bible story of the life of Jesus according to Saint Luke, as we resume the narrative today, finds Jesus twelve years of age. fassover time was again at hand in the land of Judca and Joseph and Mary went every year to the feast which was held in Jerusalem. ,This was the lime of year when the Jews assembled for worship and council and people from every country of the then known world who could make the trip, journeyed to Jerusalem. Merchants brought their wares and buyers came to buy. Everyone, religious and otherwise, went to Jerusalem at Passover time and crowds were everywhere. So Joseph and Mary, after their annual custom, took Jesus and went to the Passover. Several days were spent there with friends in council and worship. And when the time came to leave, they set out for Nazareth with a company ol friends, not knowing that Jesus had tarried behind. They believed him to be among the homeward-bound crowd. A day's travel had been made before he was missed and they, greatly worried, turned back to Jerusalem searching for Jesus. ' When, after a frantic three-day search they found him, he was in the temple in the midst of learned doctors and they were asking him questions and he they. All the people who heard his questions and answers marveled at his understanding and wisdom. And when his parents saw him they again were amazed at this youthful boy who was talking quite naturally with learned doctors. His mother admonished him saying, "Son, why has thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing." And Jesus answered saying, "How is it ye sought me?" wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?" And Joseph and Alary heard him but could not understand his words. They were two faithful Christians whom God had selected to rear the Holy Child but they were not capable of grasping the wisdom of the words of the Son of God. Joseph was a carpenter by trade. So when Jesus referred to His Father's work tney knew not what he meant. Jesus, realizing their bewilderment went with them to Nazareth where, as St. Luke wrote, "He increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man." The Father's business at even such an early age was the business of Jesus. The business of God's kingdom was born with evidence by the life of Jesus. It's a universal business and is in need of new recruits. Your church is in need of you. "You must be about your Father's business." Come To Church!
