W A. Martin of Lal’orte, Indiana, and several of his business associates are considering a proposition submitted to them by Charles V. Newman, manager of the Oreeni.ustle Gas and Electric Light Co., for the purchase (of the local plant. Mr. Martin, who is the president of the Rochester, (ind.) Gas Co . and who formerly owned the LaPorte Gas Plant, was here a few weeks ago and look< d over the local situation. He has been considering the purchase of the local plant since last October, but would not seriously consider It until the city council granted a franchise to the | company. This accounts for the un- j usual activity of Mr. Newman, last | winter, in securing a new franchise. | Negeotiations have progressed eo, far that Mr. Newman states that the j deal is liable to be cloaed at any : Mine He is now w-orking under in- j structlons from the preeent owners of the plant to purchase nothing more than Is absolutely necessary for the operation of the plant which would indicate that, the property is alfcut to be sold Mr. Newman probably will be retained as manager of the plant in case it is sold.
