Dangerous Work. On a night like Sunday and Monday nights the brakemen on freight trains take their lives in their hands, for there is nothing more dangerous than walking the tops of box cars in good weather, and with the wind blowing a gale and the snow drifting over the tops of the cars the men can scarcely be expected to leave the shelter of the caboose. But sometimes it must be done and then it is hat a brakeman exposes himself to the danger of losing his life.

the officers.
Cochenour was taken to the jail. When they reached there with him he was in a serious condition. He was Intoxicated and nearly exhausted from exposure. Later he was taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Dennewltz, in South Greencastle, who are related to the man. This morning it was feared that the old man would suffer pneumonia from his experience. It is learned that Cochenour purchased a quart of whiskey from a “boot-legger" some time Friday He drank much of the whiskey and became intoxicated. Finally he wandered to the pond and got into the water. Had his crys not been heard it is probable that the old man would have drowned or died from exposure. What he did during the day or how he lost much of his do thing is not known.

That the chemical department of the Purdue University experiment station has practically solved the problem of reclaiming muck soils in Indiana is made evident by results obtained in Newton County, where experiments have been carried on lor the last four years. After four years’ work it has been clearly demonstrated that only by the use of potasli can muck soil be made fertile, and it has been estimated that if this method is applied to all the muck soil in Indiana it will result iu a gain of more than $3,000,&00 annually, or enough to pay for all that the State is spending on the entire experiment station more than one hundred fold. Some of the plans laid out in muck soil in Newton County were treated with potash and others were left untreated to show the productiveness of the original soil. After the first application of potash no more was used, but the plats were harvested separately, and the produce weighed for four years. As a
The probabilities are that within the next year the price of domestic house cats will advance 500 per cent. Many sections of our country are infested by hords of rats, said to be destroying hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of valuable annually. This is true in all the larger cities of America. Poisons, in the shape of pastes, poisoned meats, etc., have been liberally strewn in their runs, in sewers and elsewhere, but the number steadily increases. Now comes from Japan to the city of Chicago an order for a shipment of 5,000 cats to Tokio at once. The Japanese have demonstrated conclusively that the common house cat—the American bred—is the only solution of the rat problem in that country. So bold and ferocious have these rodents become in Tokio and else where that they attack sleeping infants, and are said to crawl into the beds of invalids and begin eating the flesh. A scream from the unfortunate calls assistance and the rodents are driven away. Many of the rats are said to be as large as squirrels. Cats are the only remedy for the pest ridden districts. The prices will go up.

Home-Made Kidney, Bladder and Hheiiiiintism Medicine for Headers
Here is a simple home-made mixture as given by an eminent authority on Kidney diseases, who makes tlie statement that it will relieve almost any case of Kidney trouble if taken before the stage of Bright’s disease. He states that such symptoms as lame back, pain in the side, frequent desire to urinate, especially at night; painful and discolored urination. are readily overcome. Here is tlie recipe. Try it. Fluid Extract Dandelion, one-half ounce; Compound Karpon one ounce, Compound Syrup Sarsaparilla, three ounces. Take a teaspoonful after each meal and at bedtime Those Ingredients are all harmless and easily mixed at home by shaking well in a bottle. This mixture has a peculiar healing and soothing effect upon the entire Kidney and Urinary structure, and often overcomes the worst forms ofr Rheumatism in just a little while. This mixture is said to remove nil blood disorders and cure Rheumatism by forcing the Kidneys to filter and strain from the blood and system all uric acid and foul, decomposed waste matter which cause these affletions. Try it if you aren’t well. Save the pres-
cription.

land China, Berkshire, Yorkshire ' and cross-bred pigs showed no material difference in the rate and cost j of gain, although the higher condi- | lion of the Poland China at the ( lose of the experiments was marked. The {cross-bred pigs ranked second in this j respect. Conclusions on the subject, howeve r, will be withheld until further Investigation can be made. Experiments to determine the value of soy beans in pork production when pastured off in the Held involved four lots of pigs, one lot fed on full feed of corn and soy bean pasture, another on half ration of corn and soy bean pasture, a third on corn and middlings and a fourth on corn and clover pasture. Tlie work will be continued another year before results are announced. To determine the value of different rations for wintering fall pigs after weaning one lot of pigs was fed on grain alone, another lot on supplemented with root, another lot on grain on rye pasture and another on grain and cut clover hay. Those receiving grain on rye pasture consumed 3.7 4 pounds of grain and made an average daily gain of .91 pound,
Ibis being tlie highest gain.

If you have indigestion, your food ferments in the stomach and bowels. It does more; it decays, and the nutritions matter which should go to make new blood decays with it, and this leads to an impoverished condi- | tion of the blood, to nervousness, ! billiousness, constipation, sick head- | ache, bad breath which disgusts your I friends, and other disagreeable and I unpleasant conditions. And all tills trouble is caused by I the food that doesn't digest, but feri meats and oftimes rots in the stom-

And fermontatiop is caused by the stomach not being strong enough and energetic enough to thoroughly mix the food with the digestive juices. MI-O-NA is responsible for tens of thousands of cures.
