Condition of the Struggle for County (• tin- a- Wages by Clay anil Putnam Before the Legislalure nt Indianapolis.
SOME DIVERGENT VIEWS GIVEN
-The fight for a separate circuit for flay and Putnam '.ounties as begun in Clay is now on in full force. Friday several Oreencastle attorneys ere in Indianapolis interviewing members of the house and senate on the proposition. Clay county’s plans Jre well laid. There are to support tne movement at its very beginning, Senator Royse of Clay and Vigo, Sen tor B»als of Vigo and Representatives Kay se r of Clay, Hays of Vigo, Poor of Vigo, Sunkle of Vermillion a.i'.k Vigo, Durham of Sullivan anil \ igo and Mngg of Owen. This makes :i formidable fighting force in both the houses and the senate. Vigo is reported almost as 11 Mich interestel as Clay, and more so than Putnam. There the attitude of all but a few of the attorneys Is rather apathetic. It is probable that little interest would be taken, or that the I'eople would be opposed if it were riot for the fact that should Clay sue<eed in securing a separate circuit and Putnam be opposed this county might be joined with Owen in an undesirable union owing to the difficulty of reaching that county. It is understood that a majority of the attorneys are in favor at a separate circuit for Putnam county. They argue that it will cost the county practically nothing, and that venued cases brought here will mean money in the county treasury. S. A. Hays, B. F. Corwin, J. H. Jaines, C. C. Matson entertain this view. On the other hand Attorney J. P. Hughes is preparing a itateinent of facts taken from the docket to show that a separate circuit is not necessary. He believes that all the docket, probate and civil and criminal can be easily taken care of after the rush of work incidental to the powder case coming here from the Fontanet explosion and the fourteen coal mining cases venued from Clay are disposed of. In case the separate circuit is established a judge would be appointed to fill out the term, and Col. C. C. Matson is receiving the support of a number of attorneys in b otl1 parties.

Martinsville, Ind.-“-The effort of Clay County to have a bill passed In’ Hie Legislature to make a separate judicial district of that county, has! awakened much Interest here among • attorneys as to a probable change! that could be made as a result of 1 such action, that would be of benefit j to Morgan county. Mrs. S. J. Washburn received a letter from A. W. Miles, President of the Wylie Permanent Camping Company of Yellowstone National Park, Saturday, presenting her with a complimentary tour of the park. The following is a copy of the note: To the Ticket Agent, WyTTe Permanent Camping Company, at Gardiner or Livingstone: Please issue Mrs. H. D. Washburn a complimentary ticket for a tour through Yellowstone National Park for the season of 1909. This is given with the compliments of the company who extend their appreciation of’the honor and high appreciation they hold for General Washburn. A. W. Miles, President. Mrs. Washburn was very much surprised with the gift as she had no knowledge of the intentions of the company, and if health permits, she will visit for the first time the country which her husband. Gen. H. D. Washburn, with a party of picked friends, explored and named in lb70. The Wylie Permanent Camping Company, which presented her with the tour, is considered by pleasureloving travelers to be the best which furnishes transportation through the park and is the one which took care of the Greencastle party last fall. S. A. Hajelett, one of that party, was the originator of this surprise for Mrs. Washburn.
Morgan Circuit Court is steadily in- : creasing, and because of this Increase I the Legislature of 1905 passed a bill 1 extending the terms of court here i from six to seven weeks. Now, the | plan Suggested by local attorneys, in I case Clay County becomes 6ne dis- ! trist, is to combine Putnam and | Owen counties, and also make Morgan County a separate and distinct
district by itself.
Much business comes here from other connTies on change of vgnue, especially from Marion county, and it is thought this change of venue business would increase if Morgan should be made a separate district. Nt/action has been taken, but the matter is being discussed by attorneys here with a great deal of interest. The salary of a circuit judge is paid out of the state treasury so that there would lie no hardship on the people of the county. Hendricks county, with less population and less court business than Morgan county, has been a separate district for sev-
eral years.
PLANS EXEMPTION LAW
Itched and Burned Terribly—Arms Affected, Too—Could Not Move Thumbs Without Flesh Cracking — Sleep and WorR Often Impossible—Was Fairly Worn Out. CUTICURA SOON CURED HIS FEARFUL ECZEMA “ About a year ago an itching humor began to apix'ar around the back of my hand. It started in to spread, and pretty soon it covered both my hands and got up ox’er my wrists and efen up to tho elbows. The itching and burning were terrible. My hands got all scaly and when I scratched, as I was diyng a g. i.d part of the time, tho surface would be co\ - ered xxitii blisters and then get raw. The eczema got so bad in around the pit of my thumbs that 1 could not move tho thumt>s without deep cracks appearing. I went to my doctor, but his nu diet no could only stop tho itching and did not s.x'in to heal my hands up at all. At night I suflered so fearfully that I could not slix'p, often lying awake unt il well toward morning, then waking tin stdl tired. I am a chef and steward oy trade and I had to give up my place, as my hands were so terrible to look nt that they did not like to have tne around almut the food. I could not bear to touch them with water, hut when 1 positively had to get my hands clean I would rub
them with oil.
“This sort of business went on for three months and 1 kept trying zinc and tar ointments anti such remedies with no particular benefit. I did not know what to do, for I was fairly worn out. For a long time several friends kept asking me why I didn’t use Cuticura and nt hist I thought I would. First I got the Cutieurn Soup, Mien Cutieura Ointment ai d at last ('titleura Resolvent. I put the Cutieura Ointment on at night, covering my hands with light cotton gloves. In the morning the inside of the gloves would lie lined with scales, sometimes half as long as your finger, leaving nice healed places where the scales had been. In a month I was cured and liax’e kept so now for nine months. My hands and arms are perfectly dear of all traces of eczema and I think 1 am well rid of it. Walter H. Cox, 16 Somerset St., Bos-
