USED BUGGY WHIP ON BOYS

Fat heps of Harold Pruitt and Leland Clark Came to Town Monday Morning and Made Affidavits against the Teacher—Was Arrested Monday.

Whipping pupils with the big end of a buggy whip is causing trouble for Newton Elliott, a country school teacher. A warrant for his arrest was sworn out- Monday and the teacher was arrested that day. Elliott teaches at the Coleman schoolhouse in Marion township. The school is better known as the Cross roads school house. Harold Pruitt and Leland Clark are the lads, whom, it is alleged, the Readier whipped with the big end of a buggy whip. Both -were at Prosecutor Hughes’s office Monday and with them came their fathers, Philander Pruitt and Harvey Clark. Both lads exhibited marks of the whip upon their legs. They told the prosecutor that they had “not done anything,” but that the teacher whipped them unmercifully. The whipping occured on Friday.

It has also performed a wonderful cure of incipient consumption for my son's wife. The first bottle ended the terrible cough, and this accomplished, the other symptoms left one by one, until she was perfectly well. Dr. King's New Discovery’s power over coughs and colds is simply marvelous.” No other remedy has ever equaled it. Fully guaranteed by The Owl Drug Store. 50c and $1.00. Trial bottle free. nv.

CLEM HURST BUYS FINE BULL

Dale Watson, No. lOo.OIS, Knocked Down to the County Auditor for gSOO. Once Sold for $2,000. Only Fair Crowd Attended Sale.

By buying the Herford bull, Dale Wilton, register No. 105,642, at the Seguin & Mullinix 4 sale of Herford cattle at the Seguin farm just north of town, Friday Clem Hurst secured one of the finest bulls in the county and one which will add greatly to his herd of fine cattle. Dale Wilton is a great animal and only a few years ago cost Dave Wallace $2,000. Mr. Hurst bought him Friday for $300. The sale was a disappointment in many ways. First the attendance was only fair and then the stock sold at exceedingly low figures. The entire herd of thirty three cattle, all of them registered Herfords, averaged a little less than $50. each. This attributed to the lateness in the season and the numerous other sales which preceded this one. Only a few weeks ago S. H. Judy sold his herd of Short horns at an average of $111. Mr. Mulllnix finding that the stock was going very low bid in a few of the cattle himself and will keep them on the farm which he will lease from Mr. Seguin. Among those who bought the cattle are John Young of this city, Mac Jones of north of town and Louis McNutt of Brazil.

WILL MAKE THIS HEADQUARTERS

Interurban Plans lo Construct Buildings in Greencastle •and Locate Its Dispatchers Here.

Rumor, which is continually taking more definite form, now has it that the Terre Haute. Indianapolis and Eastern Traction Company will build extensive buildings here and make Greencastle intermediate head quarters between Terre Haute and Indianapolis. As planned the buildings will be in the form of car barns with offices in part of the barn. They will be located just south west of the city, beyond the crossing of the Monon, where the company has purchased about eleven acres of ground from John Gray and Howard Young. The building will be large enough to hold twenty or more cars, and will be provided with machine shops for car repairing. Several train crews are expected to lay over here, which will bring to the town some very desirable citizens. It is rumored that work will begin within a few weeks, but nothing definite will be known till the plans are received. They are looked for daily.

ANOTHER DAMAGE SUIT FILED

Clay County Furnishes Interesting Case against the Terre Haute, liKliiinapolis and Eastern Traction Company.

Taking advantage of the law which allows a suit for damages against a railway company to be filed in any county through which the road passes, Dannie Dayton, of Clay county, Fri. filed suit in the Putnam county court for $10,000 against the Interurban road. The complaint alleges that the Terre Haute, Indianapolis and Eastern was careless, and ran its cars too fast in attempting to make a switch. The car was over turned, and the plaintiff seriously injured. The complaint alleges that the car was running 25 miles an hour when the motorman was trying to turn the switch. The front wheel engaged the switch, but the hind wheels remained on the main track, derailing the car, and injuring the plaintiff. G. S. Payne is the attorney for the plaintff.
