Two men arrived In Greencaatle from Spencer Thanksgiving morning and told the police that they had been robbed In the latter town. The men appeared to l*e “wanderoua” and the police did not have much faith in their story. The men stayed around town, hoiwever. Saturday night, so tt is said, they enticed a Swede laborer into the woods, telling him that they would take him to a railroad construction camp and get him a job. Instead of doing this they slugged him and took $20 and a gold watch. They then skipped out. The Swede was left In the woods insensible. He regained consciousness and Sunday came to town and told his tale of woe but the men had skipped.

Green castle was taken by storm Friday by the wielders of the birch aid rule over Putnam county. The occa-ion was the Annual Teachers’ Association meeting and every train brought in the young men and wotnen o take part in the deliberations. The session is being held in the assembly room of the court house i id the place Is a comfortable one for them to meet. President Forest Hurst called the meeting to order this morning and Elder Brown rendered the devotional exercise. Miss Bernice Keifer is presiding at the piano. The opening song was America and the way that national hymn was made to reverberate through the court house was inspiring. Prof. Ratcliff and Mrs. Boucher | then began the talks they are giving! to the teachers. Prof. Ratcliff chose) scientific subjects to talk on and had apparatus with him to demonstrate! what he had to say. He gave a taik J on physiology and showed how the blood made its course through the, human body and also showed how the corpusels retarded the flow of the i vital fluid. Mrs. Boucher talked on politics in , connection with the school and took particular pains to advise the teachers to keep politics out of their schools and also advised them that it had in place in the school She told tiie leathers tha» r.h y could not ex pect better pay and better conditions until the office of township trustee was taken out of politics and the teachers set to work to equip themselves better for their work. The talks of the morning were intensely interesting to the teachers and the intermissions were taken up by vocal and instrumental selections. While placing on the Motion depot platform at Einiedale, at about 8:30 o'clock Saturday nistit, Robert Bickel, Jr., 13 years old, a son of Robert Bickel. a traveling man who lives at I.imed.ile, fell under a north bound freight train, and his left arm was so badly mangled that amputation! was necessary. Young Bickel and a boy named; Mahoney, 9 years old, were playing j on the platform. As the train was, passing, the hoys, not seeing each | other ran together. Boith fell. The platform was wet and slippery and young Bickel slipped under the train' In some unaccountable way < the boy was knocked by tiie train back upon the platform. His arm, how-! ever, had been run over by the [ wheels and terribly crushed. Dr. Hutcheson and Dr. King were called and decided amputation necessary. The left arm was taken off above the elbow.. The lad is reported as doing nicely today.

Rare Presence of Mind of Engineer Saved Train And Probably Foss of Fife.
The country south of Bloomington is aroused over an attempt to wreck the Voulsville express train on the Monon railway Saturday morning at 4 o’clock, six miles south of that place. The attempt, supposed to have been made by robbers, was most dastardly and It was miraculous that the express was not ditohed with great loss of life. The would-be wreckers, after robbing the Monon railway station at Clear creek, four miles south of there proceeded down the track to the place where a switch to the National stone quarry branched off. Standing about 300 feet down this switch were several loaded stone cars. The
