John llollidiv, who i- iisec.relary, will leave the latter part of Next week for \\ a-hiliftton, I >. (".. as the short session of Lite present Congress will reconvene Monday, Ue-i-ernber 1!. Consressman iloliidai' will make an effort to secure an appropriation tor a si * e for a federal building for Brazil at tlie short session and will follow tins up with an appropriation for the building at the following Congress. Mr. Holliday will likely have con1 siderable trouble in securing an appropriation for the site for a federal building in ibis city at this session for as a rule (lie “pork barrel” is not opened very wide al a short session of Congress, but Congressman Holliday says lie will do all in his power : lo get the appropriation for the building siie at once. II T s expected (hat an appropriation ' of from $ I u.nOn to $15,000 will be M'l und for the site and $75,0n0 or $100,000 for the building. Several , sites are under consideration in this idiy. bir no action will be taken on ihe matter of selecting a site until 1 the appropriation is made. A representative of the government is now at Oreemastle taking up the matter of the purchase of a site for the new i federal building at that place and owner- of available ground for Hie new building have boosted their | prices out of sight. This is generally the case wherever 'he government purchases a site for j a building and it always results in a disadvantage to the city as the government will only spend the amount appropriated for the site and will purchase what ts offered at that price It is to he hoped that Congressman ' Holliday will succeed In getting the appropriation for the site at once and that when a representative of the government comes here to purchase a -iie. tlie values will not he doubled so that tlie new building will have to he put In an out of the way place. Tliis raises the question in the minds of people, has Mr. Holliday shifted liis efforts from Greencastle to his home town? Will lie now make the effort of his life for Brazil and leave Greencastle out in tlie cold so far as an appropriation for a building is concerned? Is Mr. Holliday strong enough to get appropriations for two sites in his district in the face of Cncie Joe Cannon? We hope : he Is equal to the emergency and ! that not only Brazil can get their appropriation but that Greencastle will not be forgotten when it comes to building.
The Trca-ur t Wauls The t ai l- Scl 4 )ui iii a Manner Hint will Give Him a Chance to Answer. In ihe Circuit Court Friday afternoon tlie motion ul tlie county coiumi»aiuners and Ed. MoG. Walls to make the plaintiff, John C. Akers, make hi- complaint more specific was argued. *i hi- is a suit by Mr. Akers, who claims to be a taxpayer of the county against the commissioners and Mr. Walls to prevent the hoard from allowing him his salary for the reason i,hat the treasurer has not been dilligem in performing his duty with regard to collecting certain delinquent taxes which have been placed on ihe duplicate by tlie auditor of I the county and which we might say grows out of the work of the tax territ that operated in this county. The motion filed by Mr. James, as the attorney for Walls and the board, sets out that there is no way of making a defence to the complaint is its present form and asks that the lie name- of tlie people owing dclinquet taxes he given, the time tlieir Maxes became delinquent and the! amount owing by each. If this Is not done, i; is claimed by the defence, there will be no way of determining a- to who Mr. Walls lias failed to exercise dilligence in in the matter of collecting their taxes and tlie whole list of taxpayers of the county would he included in the list. The court heard the argument tills afternoon and will render his dec Is-{ ion on the matter and also the sufficiency of the complaint at some future date,

LOSS IS NEAR A HUNDRED DOLLARS
Fire Discovered l»y Wife Who Was in Room Below. No Water Was Thrown.
A defective flue at the home of Fay Hamilton on Park street caused a fire which resulted in a small damage this morning at near 9 o'clock. The lire broke out In a bed room on the second floor. The stove from which the fire originated was In the living rocm directly beneath.
Mrs. Hamilton who was In the latter room was warned of the conflagration by smoke coming into the room. When she reached the upstairs room it was tilled with smoke and several pieces of clothing and the carpet were burning. An alarm was turned in over the telephone but before the department arrived neighbors had succeeded in quenching most of the Are. The firemen used their chemical apparatus in totally putting out the fire. No water was thrown. The loss will not amount to more than $100. The fire department made a quick run.
One of the busses from the Kohl At Gill barn got so deeply mired in the mud at the Big Four overhead bridge work north of town last night that it was abandoned until this morning, when it took several men some time to dig it out. George Shockley, Lite night driver started to take Tom Sldener to his home from the lUtUS Vaudalia train. When he reached the overhead bridge abutments now being built north of town and started to go around by the road which is now regularly used, the bus sank in to the hubs. The horses were unable to pull It out. Shockley unhitched his team and brought it to town, leaving Sldener to walk home. The men at the barn say that when he reached there he had more the appearance of a football player who had been in a hard game on a sloppy field than a bus driver. Dirt washed down into the road by i the heavy rain of the last few days was tlie cause of tlie mishap. In tlie dark tlie driver could not see that the road was impassable. Postmaster Robbed. G.'W. Fonts, Postmaster at Riverton. la., nearly lost his life and was robbed of all comfort, according to his letter, which says: “For 20 years I had chronic liver complaint, which led to such a severe case of jaundice that even my finger nails turned yellow: when my doctor prescribed 1 Flectric Bitters; whieh cured me and have kept me well for eleven years.” 'Sure cure for Biliousness, Neuralgia, weakness and all stomach, liver, Kidney and bladder derangements.
