pee. It is the rubber husines I know be.t and ahout which I am the most competent to 5peak. Put I think you can take the Goodrich Rubber Co.. aj a vry fair indication of what is golns on. perhaps in a minor way. In a pre at majority of Industrie. vV for instance, have t.pen ho busy eup-piyln-an ever-lncrea.slnrr market that we find the 24-hour day all too short. We are obliged to have three et of employes trorkinfr in three shifts of c-htht hours each. Compenition in the rubber industry Is keen but fair; and it has resulted in a vastly Improve! Industry; an Industry that cannot afford any Ion motion but which la constantly, by scientific management, cutting costs of production and thus effectint; a tremendous ivlntr for the buying public. And I should like the public to realze what a tremendous basic industry the rubber Industry is. How largely It enter into the life and industry and convenience of the nation l.s evidenced by the fact that rubber is largely used In practically every form of transportation, In surgical troods. footwear, trains, aeroplanes. busies. g:3 engines, automobiles, electric apparatus, radio, building construction, toilet articles, household wear. etc. And the us x of rubber ar tcrowlns? dally. "How fast the rubber industry Is takln? its p'ae as one of America's industrial Kaders may be Judsed from (hf fact that in list month our faks increased K.O percent over the month of April, and our May and Tun business, compared with May

and .Tunc of la.-t year nearly doubled. l-als of cord tir.s since January of this year hive be-n duMv those of the first five months, and at this moment our sales are running hieher than ever tiefere in the history of Coodrich."

PARIS STREETS GET NEW NAMES

War Heroes Have to be Honored, So Innocent Public Has to Suffer. PARIS. Sept. 9. Paris is the most perplexing city in the world. Now, as though deliberately to make thlnffs werfe, the municipal council threatens to rename many important streets. It Is an old French custom to honor frerierals. authors, statesmen, Inventors and what not by naming streets aftr them. Put France haü o many men she delights to honor that even Paris hasn't enough new streets to go around. Old names must be changed, old associations Fhattered. old city directories rendered worthless, and the visitor bewllde.rd to the point of headache. It bA a si eat war, the French bay. and It must b followed by an equlvalently great upheaval In the mattftr of utreet named. The council proposes to change at least nineteen of tho good old names at one fell stroke of the ballot. Among well-known streets familiar to every visitor to Paris for which a r.ew r.ame will have to be learned are the '"llowlng: The Avemie üj RoIsde-P.oulo.cnc. which will become the Avenue du Marechal Foch. A continuation of the avenue wi'l the Avenue du Marechal IVtain The Ccurs de Vlncrnr.es will i n come the Avenue du Marechal Joffre. The Poulevard Raspall will bav to b relearr.ed Roulevard du Pres't Fo'.ncare. Part of the Avenue Malakoff will to renamed Avenue Georges Clemcrce?u. Th Plac Mdlcls will beconuthe Pl.-ice d'K-lmcnd Rotand. The rue dtxs Gobelins will be called the rue des Quatre-Freres-Pelc-r.ot. T!-. ni d Magdbotjre will belOT.o t!:e ru d.e Mor.talenibert.
