Six months ago this paper made the statement that building prices were down to a new low level. The suggestion was freely offered that those who contemplated building should start work at once, because prices would hardly go löwer and might rise some. The fact was mentioned that additional building operations would put men to work and thus not only provide finances for families but put money into general circulation at a time when circulating money was necessary if South Bend was to continue to improve and grow and prosper. We shall leave it to the reader to decide how true those statements were. South Bend has grown in these six months. Building activity has been great

and contractors have been busy. Stores have gained in business. Thousands of men in this city have been employed on building work.

Prosperity is largely local. This statement was also made in the opening articles. It was pointed out that: if South Bend wished to prosper it could prosper even if other cities this size or larger or smaller did not prosper. South Bend could make up her mind to move ahead and she has moved ahead. The thing for the people of this city to remember now is to keep up the good work. We have made an enviable record for building in six months. Scores of homes have been built. New buildings have come to add to the owners' wealth and to the city's prosperity. Business has been stimulated and money put to work. Keep in close touch with the business men if you wish to know business trends from now on. Ask the lumber man what conditions are. It is his business to let you know. Ask the other men represented on this page for special information in their line. Ask the contractor. Ask the dealers of special lines.
