In driving, after It ha taken up that lost motion, the engin pulls the car smoothly and steadily. Is the universal Joint ao constructed that there could be that amount of motion there? If you think the trouble is in the gear-set or differential, please tell me what parts need replacing. The gears shift easily. I have not taken it apart as yet, aa I want some advico flr.t. E. C. Undoubtedly most of your trouble li In the universal joint, although there will be some lost motion among the gears on a car that has been in use. Drive pinion and crown gear on differential should also be inspected. There should be very little lost motion between the clutch and driving wheels when all the driving, member are properly fitted.

Preventive Work Costly. There are 251. 939 highway crossings In the country. Of this number only 399 were eliminated in one. year. Each elimination cost $50.0ft0, making the cost of eliminating all crossings $12.500.000.000. The association pledges co-operation by the railroads in keeping crossings in good condition ror travel, giving reasonable notice of the existence of crossings, and seeing to it that flagmen do their full duty in warning of the approach of trains. The value of safety first campaigns ls shown, railroad officials say. by the reduction in deaths from accident among employes from 4384 in 1907 to 2578 in 1920. Safety engineers urge automobile drivers to form the habit of shifting gears into low speed at all crossings.

and an answer has been found in a special type of armored car. While the master-minds of the underworld were scheming new robberies, with ensuing loss of life, the
heads of big corporations in the East i
were facing a critical situation, aug-j mented by the impending raising of' rates of protective Insurance. But Insurance only covers the act-! ual cash loss, lives being unprotected I and no return of the vast amount of I energy needed in restoring lost rec- ! ords. Speed is essential, stability of construction without rx- t

Precision plays an important part in th e manufacture of the SpecialSix. It is largely responsible for the dependable service that has singled out the Special-Six as an incomparable value. Six hundred and eighty inspectors safeguard precision in the Stüde-' baker factories. They literally inspect every part that goes into every car and every operation on every part. Before cars are passed for delivery 9,500 inspections are made. In the Special-Six there arc 1.120 mechanical operations to the accuracy of one-thousandth of an inch, 360 to one-half -thousandth.
As to the car's performance, a brief experience will reveal its superiority far more convincingly thanwecould tell it. Studebaker cars make friends quickly, because they give most for the money. And they invariably keep these friends, because of the universal satisfaction they give in fine performance, economy and service.
