Copyright. 1022,. by McClure Newspaper Syndicate. "Don't go out looking for adventurer today." Raid Nurse Jane Fuzzy Wuzzy, the muskrat lady nurse, to the bunnny gentleman, as he started to hop from his hollow- stump bungalow one morning. "Why not?" asked Mr. Lonffears. "Why shouldn't I go out adventuring; tciay, as I did yesterday and the day before?" "Oh. because I had guch an unhappy dream about you last night," answered Miss Fuzy Wuzzy. "I dreamed you were out in the cold, and were frozen to stiff you couldn't walk, and then you were thrown into a fnow drift." "Who threw me into a snow drift, I'd like to know?" cried Uncle Wiss.ily, making his pink nose twinkle quite provoking like, though the bunny gentleman seldom became angry. "Who threw me Into a snow drift?" "Nobody, really, but I dreamed the Fuzy Fox did." answered tho muskrat lady. "Don't go out today, Wiggy, my dear.'" "Oh, I'm only going a little way, and then I'll come back." faid Mr. Lon gears kindly, for he didn't wan? Nurse Jane to worry. A way hopped the bunny uncle, laughing to himself about Nurse Jane's queer dream. "I wonder if I shall have an adventure like that?" thought Mr. Longears. and he was laughing again when, all of a sudden, he heard some one slipping and sliding over the Ice and snow- toward him. "Maybe this is the Fuzy Fox now," whispered the bunny. But it hapened to be Mr. Whitewash, the kind Polar Bear gentleman, who was a friend of Uncle Wiggily. Mr. Whitewash had on his big, white fur coat. "Oh, hello. Uncle Wiggilyl" roarVd Mr. Whitewash in his most jolly voice. "How are you today?" "Very well. Indeed," said the bunny. "You look well yourself." "I am," said Mr. Whitewash. "Won't you come to my Icicle cave and have a drink of ice water?" "Ice water is a bit cold on a freezing day like this," said Uncle Wiggily, shivery like. "Hot chocolate would be more to my taste." "That's so!" laughed Mr. Whitewash. "I forgot that most of my. friends do r.ot like things as cold as I do; being a Polar Bear. Well, com to my icicle cave and I'll make j'ou some hot chocolate, though I don't drink it myself." So Mr. Whitewash and the bunny gentU-man walked) along together, until they came to the Polar Bear's icicle cave. "Come in and sit on a cake of Ice," invited the jolly Bear. ( "Dear me! A cake of ice soundi rather cold and cheerless," said Uncle Wiggily, once more shivery like. "Ha! Ha" laughed Mr. Whitewash. "There I go forgetting again! Of course. I always sit on a rake of ice myself, but I'll give you one with a little oil stove inside to keep you warm." "That sounds better," said Uncle Wiggily. "But won't the oil stove melt the cake of ice?" "It's only a baby oil stove,", explained the Polar Bear gentleman: "just enough so you won't freeze fast to the cake of ice." "All right." said Uncle Wiggily. and, somehow or other, he though of Nurse Jane's queer dream. Soon he and Mr. Whitewash reached the icicle cave, and while Uncle Wiggily sat on a cake of. ice with a baby oilstove inside, the Polar Bear mad himself somo iced tea and Uncle Wiggily some hot chocolate. Just as they were drinking, all of a sudden in bounced the Fuzzy Fox. HatJfa!" laughed the Fox. "I though I'd find Uncle Wiggily in here! Now for some tine nibbles!" and he was just going to nip the bunny's ears when Mr. Whitewash said: "Just a moment, Mr. Fox. Sit down until Uncle Wiggily finishes his hot chocolate before you nibble his ars. Here, sit on this." and though theFox didnfc notice (his eyes vfatchIng the bunny all the time), he sat dow n on a cold cake of ice which Mr. Whitewash slid over behind him. At the same time Mr. Whitewash winked one eye at Uncle Wiggily. "Well. I'll sit down a moment," growled the Fox. "and then I'm going to do some nibling." So he sat down on the cold, freezing cake of
i ice. while Uncle Wiggily. sitting on j an ice cake with a baby oil stove InI side, sipped his hot chocolate. And
the Bear drank his cold tea. "Well. Fall the Fox. after a bit. "If I'm going to nibble an' nibbl any any er er " And then he couldn't say another word. Almost before he knew it he was frozen stiff from sitting on the ice cake, and he couldn't even speak, much less nibble ears.
"Ha Ha'" lautrhed Mr. White-1
wash, as he threw the stiff, frozen Fox out of the cave into a snow drift. "I could have pushed him out when he first came in If I had wished, but I thought it would be more lun to let him freeze himself." "Yes. and that's Nurse Jane's T'.ream!" aid Uncle Wiggily. "Only she though I was the one to be tossed into a snow drift. But it was the Fox. and it serves him right." Then the bunny drank the rest of his hot chocolate and. getting up from the warm cake of ice, he hurriei back to his'bungalow to tell the muskrat lady his queer adventure. And if the toothpick doesn't fall oft when it goes sailing on the cake of
violet soap, and get its paw3 all wet. I'll tell you next about Unci Wiggily
and Bunty'n sled.

"Mrs. Graham." he said deferentially, and I turned in little Mrs. Durkee's loving embrace to take hisextended hand. "I think yoh need somebody about my iz hyah. This last sentence was not the truth, only the conventional phrase which slips so glibly from one'8 lips. I wa.s not worried about my nother-ln-law or my husband, or any one else in the world save my baby boy. "Worry" wa'a feeble word, indeed, for that awful anguish of uncertainty concerning his fate which had be.iten me to the ground and had numbed all my nerve centres till I was more like a machine than a woman. 'Til go to see her in a minute. Just now, I'm going to settle your case. There are Just three women !n this house, aren't there yohself, yoh mother-in-law and the maid?" I nodded assent, for I felt a strong disinclination for epeech. Dr. Jim gave mo a keen look, and turned to ?.Irs. Durkee. -I Won't Take Anything." "It's up to yoh. little lady." he said. "With Mrs. Graham's permission, I'm going to take charge of things here, medically, and I hereby appoint you housekeeper. Just run things a if you were in yoh own home, and be sure Mrs. Graham isn't bothered with a single detail. Find out where everybody but you and Aunt Dora can get rooms in the neighborhood. I want Aunt Dora to help me take care of the elder Mrs. Graham. They were very much attracted to each other down South last winter, and Aunt Dora is a host where trouble is. Now, that's settled, Mrs. Durkee, yoh put this young woman to bed, after she has a hot bath and some hot milk." "I am not going to bed."
