Cliirap Hanking Situation Has Effect on Wall Street Dealings. MOW YCIIK. Jan. ?,. Tho f.rst stock exchange sosion of the nvr far was featured by extensive liquidation and heavy hhort celling. The reversal caused extrem recessions of two to almost 12 points In every division except rails. Sales approxllnated 1,0 o-o.o 00 shares. Fvents over the holiday, particularly :J.e Chicago banking association, gave rise to considerable apprehension and suggested that more important readjustments of over extended financial interests were under way. Thv feeling was heihtpne-d by weakness in the principal convnoJlty markets. Further cuts in oil priefs, and steady-el e orea.'-e of tonnage at western and southwestern railway terminals and omission of the stock dividend on Kelly-Springfield tire ueie other unsettling developments. The reaetion started in the oil group, foreign as well as domestic J.1 sues being under constant pressure, (specially Standard Oil of New Jersey, Standard Oil eif California, Mexican and Fan-American Petroleums, General Asphalt, and Houston. Specialty's Weaken. All the motor and rubber specialties weakened on announcement of the Kelly-Springheld dividend suspension, that steu-k makirjf a precipitate decline of six and one-half points. American Woolen, Soars-Koebuck, Stud.-baker. Famous Players and Crucible and Fnited States Steel shared In the broader selling movement of tho linal hours, shippings nel numerous miscellaneous issues then recording minimum prices. The money market was the only i (assuring feature of the day, showing cemiparativo rase. Call loans opened at 3 V per cent, a moderate concession from last week's final quotation and later were In free supply at 5 per cent. Fe.reign exchanges were lower In connection with the impasse at the arms conference and uncertainty regarding the outcome of Germany's indemnity payments. Sterling cased only a fraction of a cent, but all the allied remittances were heavy, that tone also spreading to the Scandinavian countries. The Greek rate was the one exception, strengthening on the assistance rendere-tl to that government by Le ndon. The January re-investment demand for bonds was disappointing, quotations showing irregular re-actions for most domestic issues. Including the Liberty group. Several of the foreign divisions. such, as Japanese and Mexican offe rings wero firm and strong. Total sales (par value) $lC.S50.0ftn.

le. In provisions the outcome varied from unchanged figures to 12c lower. At first It appeared an If the difHculfies of the Fort Dearborn bank could cause no special disturbance in the wheat market, but before the session was half over a change had takpn place, and near the end of the day the pit had become peml-demor-allzed. The fact was then evident that the trade had failed to recover entirely from the shock of the Wagner failure last week, and that the jolt from the Fort Dearborn bank affair waa more severe than had been pointed to by earlier indications. The Ptorm -which ensued began with heavy liquidating sales on the part of eastern Interests and was greatly Increased in violence by excited margin-calling among commission houses. The margin-calling was based largely on disturbing rumors affecting various board of trade concerns that later In every case cleared their entire obligations as usual. Final prices were nt a slight rally from the bottom level of the day. On the breaks July delivery went under $1 and made a new low record for the season. Corn and oats received better sup port than was the case with wheat. The weakness of the bread grain, however, was reflected to a moderate extent by feed stuffs.

HIGH TEST GASOLINE STARTS QUICKLY . And will save you this annoyance. We have installed pumps and storage facilities for High Test Gasoline because we have found there is a demand for it. Our experience has been that it is used all the year 'round but is particularly adapted to winter driving BECAUSE IT GIVES MORE MILEAGE, HAS MORE PEP AND LESS CARBON. The next time your gas tank's empty give this High Test Gasoline, with its quick starting properties, a trial. HOWEVER, If you prefer Regular Gasoline, you can get it at our stations. We endeavor to give customers what they want and do not presume to dictate. We'd just as soon sell Regular Gasoline as High Test. We're here to serve you.
